So I am trying to figure some good ways to get water to places that would be a real hassle to lug water to. I would like for people to post all their ideas for different ways of getting water to their grows. Anything from ways to collect rain water to pumping in your water. Please be specific if you can on what equipment you need so if people want to use your technique they have can make a checklist of things they need.

Ill tell ya I still haven't found a way to not work my ass off when watering, its still fill up as many AZ tea jugs as I can fit in my pack at the nearest water source and truck it to my plants,

Hit up any local eateries. Ask them what days they change their oil (usually monday or tuesday) and see if they'll give you the jugs. Then you'll have some 4-5 gallon plastic containers with awesome handles on top and a screwtop lid.
Just flush em out really good with some hot water and soap a few times and they're good to go.
Also spend 10$ on a gas siphoning hose. No more bending over to fill those jugs. You just sit down. Toss one end in the water. Put the other end in the jug. Pump it a few times and wait it out.

To collect water i dig holes normally 4 by 4 and couple feet deep line with some good plastic do now by time you need water june july so on youll have it but will have to manually get it out pour on plants
im gonna do some experimenting this year with some other things

ever think of a wick system just thread nylon rope trough the hose and submerge it in the water source, it will even carry it straight uphill.

Are you sure about Nylon

Nylon is a non-absorbant fiber .....


On pulling the cord thru the tube
- first use a thin 'fishing-line' type of line with a small piece of plastic tyed on the end as a flag
- then feed it a foot or so into one end, and put a shop-vacume on the other sucking the thin line thru the tube
- Use the thin line the pull the heavy line thru the tube

Some people may have success with miracle grow watering crystals. They hold rain water and release it over time. Peace.

im in the same predicament ive thought of everything from hydraulic ram pump, battery operated pumps with solenoid valve attached to timer. Since my site will be uphill from the water source gravity is no help for me, then i stumbled across this nifty manual pump you can build out of pvc pipe and one way valves >>

it may take a bit of effort to pump it the half mile that you need but once you've pumped it through the outlet, if everything's airtight it should lock the water in place so you wont have to pump it the half mile every time, it should be ready to pump fresh water to the crop after being 'primed' so to speak

if it`s been suggested, here it is again.

I myself collect rain using strings into gallon jugs, white buckets or trash bags in a hole. I have a simple wallpaper sprayer to fill and use to water plants. This works well for me because it rains a lot in New England. But tough terrain is no happy deal when carrying water jugs. Most sprayers are yellow or bright green so I camo painted mine and the buckets.

It`s just food for thought. Idea to ponder. Inexpensive.

Try to use as many white buckets as you can, animals bite through gallon jugs and dig up bags, but can`t get the cover off a bucket.

As tempting as it is, don`t use fishing line, it lets go of the water too easily, and the water may not track to the container, I use kite string or similar.
