Dave's First LED Grow Using Area 51

IMHO, you are way overferting, which means your plants are likely getting more N than they can handle

Here's my led girls at ~ 800ppm for the last 2 week,s and 700ppm for the 2 weeks before that

Yeah, I thought that dark green color might mean too much nitrogen, but wasn't sure. From all the comments I get the idea that my nutes are too high in nitrogen and too low in phosphorus. Not sure how to lower one without lowering the other.

Looking really good there. Those long pistils are really sticking straight out. Do you comb them? lol I see in your first picture that some of the leaf tips are curled up a little too. Maybe that's nothing to freak out over. They look healthy.

I'm not a hydro guy or an LED guy (I tried some Spectras for flower-EPIC FAIL). The way I see it, is that if you're using LED's and you're not killing your plants like most people do, then you're doing something right! LOL

I would suggest that if you make a change, that its minuscule, because you don't want to wreck what you have going here, which overall looks very good.

So Dave, you got some heavy hitters following you here which is fanfuckintastic....I need to interject a cannamatuer question real quick....new to this plant but gardener for many, many years......the leaf tip "burn" and really dark green are thus far being attributed to high nitrogen.

1) is this detrimental to yield?
2) if you lower the nutes (to bring the nitrogen down) will this affect anything adversely?
3) is high nitrogen bad any way in THIS situation as all other indicators seem to be ok...thus far....and is it just thus far, meaning if no changes are made will this turn out ok?

Thanks for this ride...I came here to follow the 190 and in RIU fassion I am learning so much more.

That's a very good question and I really appreciate your posing it, Balke. I just discovered yesterday that it's too much nitrogen. I was also thinking that there was a deficiency of phosphorus, but maybe I shouldn't have worried so much about that. I definitely have too much N, though. So next water change I'm going to ease way up on the base nutes that contain it. I'll start flushing probably tomorrow in preparation for that. I've also switched base nutes starting with the last water change, from AN Sensi Bloom to AN pH Perfect Connoisseur. My bottles of Sensi Bloom are 3 years old, so maybe they're past their prime.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! This has been a productive lesson for me in reading the leaves. I guess I never had such knowledgeable growers following my journals before.

Took the SCROG screen off today, since it was just pushing down on the plant. It did its job spreading out the branches. I could be wrong, but I don't think the plant will get TOO much bigger now. I'll tie down branches as needed. I'll make better use of the SCROG in my next grow.

Accidental smoke report!
Somehow I accidentally knocked a bud off the plant, so I put it in a bathroom drawer to dry out. Smoked it last night. Got a really pleasurable high from it, probably more THC and less CBD than usual. That's the youngest bud I ever smoked -- was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the high.

Started flushing the roots with RO water around 3 pm today. I want to keep flushing until tomorrow afternoon to get all the junk out of the roots, since I accidentally over-nuted her for a couple weeks.

Here are some more bud shots from today, with some closeups at the end:

It should be done stretching.

Yeah, sure it was an accident...:weed:

I know, likely story, right? ha ha.

Hey greatbranch, I'd like to see how your plants are coming along. Don't be afraid to show me up. I won't mind if they look better than mine.
Mine are a little ahead of yours (timewise). Your plant puts mine to shame, but I've managed decent quality. I am working on getting my quantity up. Thought more topping was better, but learned otherwise. Been refining my gear along the way. I have only completed one previous grow (in this decade...lol). I've learned quite a bit...including the fact that my money could have been better spent, but I have a Heinz 57 system and have just pieced things together along the way.

Got 2 plants in flower, and 2 in veg. I use a Phototron (old school) to veg - 6 55W T5s . Tent with a 150 W HPS and 2 Blackstar 135 UFOs. Just learned about main lining, so look out!

Amnesia Haze at about 3 weeks in veg.

Strawberry Cough seedling - just found out I can fit 2 - 1 gallon smart pots in the Phototron (3 if I REALLY need to, but I have to stagger the growth)

I am looking forward to what you end up with, man! You have really convinced me on the A-51. Your plant looks awesome, and I REALLY wish I had your engineering skills...lol. I have learned so much from you guys on the LED side of the community. Could be just me, but you are all more friendly... Thanks for letting me thread-jack, dave! I enjoy sharing, but some folks harsh on my groove...lmao. Let me know when you're ready to open up that shop in Colorado that caters to accessibility needs. We'd KILL IT! RollerGrow.jpg

Yeah, I noticed that your quality is really good. That's more important than quantity to me.

But before I comment any further, I have to tell you that I'm not able to see your pictures. I get a message saying "invalid attachment specified". I can see your wheelchair graphic at the end, though.

I noticed that your links look like this:
So it uses some PHP command to retrieve the picture. Try clicking on it.

But a link in one of your earlier posts look like this:
without using PHP. I can see that.

I don't use attachments, so I don't know exactly what's wrong, but I know which way works.

Water change today!

Added about 25% less total nutrient than I had been during the past few weeks. I hope it's not still too much.

Here's the root ball. It looks more solid than last week:

Also put the system on wheels:

Somehow the plant must have raised its branches now that it's free from under the screen, because now it's a bit too close to the lights. Achhk! I'll probably have to take it off the furniture dolly next week.

Sorry about that, Dave (why do I hear HAL in my head?) Not near my PC. It HAS to be size related. I will post smaller ones in the morning.

Those roots look badass, nice color and super healthy bro.

Personally I would leave the screen on and drop it tight and low to open it up as much as possible for even penetration. She's a nice bush! If your footprint is big enough for the whole space, why not use it all!?

Something to think about :bigjoint:

Are you getting burn or you think it's just closer than the recommended? I saw someone say they ran things a little closer to an A-51 panel than recommended and the plants did alright. Did she spring up that much?

It's just closer than recommended, so I'm not overly concerned at this point. It's hard to tell by looking at it, but I measured and it got closer by more than the 5" height of the furniture dolly -- about 4" closer. So I guess it must have lifted its branches up. What a pain in the ass these ladies can be!

This is my first attempt at SCROGging, so I won't pretend that I know what I'm doing... :-) but I felt like the screen was just jamming all my plant's leaves and branches together under it. I think I should have done more training BEFORE using the SCROG to start spreading out the branches earlier. And she wasn't growing too much in the past couple weeks, so the SCROG wasn't doing much to train it. She's in the 6th week of flower, so I don't think she'll grow too much taller, will she? If she does, I could just tie branches down to spread them out now. I'll try to SCROG again next grow.
