Hey guys .. Good morning :-P

I was wondering, what is the F1, ?, ? all about ? what does it refer to ?

Thanks
TM
The F1 refers to the genetic line/ breeding line. The F1 is the first generation resulting from a cross of specific parents(this doesn't just apply to plants, its general breeding info for plants or animals). You then get into various other classsifications like F2(3)(4), or S1(2)(3) and such depending on the direction which you take your breeding program. If you want to learn more on it all I would suggest simply googling plant breeding, or even marijuana breeding.
Wham bam thank you ma'am, lol..

Ok ... Makes sense. Thanks much. I think I have my hands full for awhile with my lil grow and the TWO new pups. Not really interested in the act of breading (at least right now) but I am interested in the science. I just asked because of the post ahead reminded me ;-) lol

What I really should have asked was ... How the hell do they make fem ceeds ? lol (or autos)

I know I could research it ... and would if I couldn't resist ! lol

man ... 30' of snow with 30 - 50 below just a few days ago. Now it warmed up enough just to make it melt. NASTY Oh well, just go away, I say ! Im done with it already.

Hey buddy. Fem seeds are created by either chemically herming your lovely female using one of a list of things to make her pop male flowers and pollinate herself.

Autos are usually F5 if making your own from a
ruderalis x (sativa, indica, or hybrid)
Cross. You can also cross 2 STABLE automatic strains and in most cases get 100% auto progeny in the F1 generation. But stability would take 5+ generations to accomplish.

Sadly that stabalization is something you don't see happening enough in the breeding community I don't think. Many of these companies are more worried about pumping out as many new strains as possible, or marketing their new "insert fade strain here" cross to really work the genetics as well. Not that I don't have fem seeds in my genetics, but I'm really not a big fan of the fem seed revolution. It really seems like it has the potential to introduce some very pour genetic features.

When I first started growing it seemed to make so much sense to use fem seeds.
When breeding however Fem seed are the devil. Haha

The hassle of reversing sex. UGH. Its not like you can bring your little female down to the local pot doc and have some new sex organs added on for a low cost. Lol
Its the waiting around for nothing that gets to me. 2 months for a pinch of pollen. Fuck that noise.

I'll continue to grow my males, flowering 2 at a time in my new tent(when it gets ordered). Lol

Very interesting. Thanks guys, I am ALL trained up now. Now I can start my own biz. hahahahaha

Thanks ... Nice class this morning/afternoon.
Should have a class every day ;-) Like a quote of the day or something.

Throw do some MJ/grow knowledge (or whatever)
Maybe by the time THIS thread has reached the end of the internet, we all may be experts ! lol

I just recently did my first breeding experiment. It all finished drying, now I gotta pick out my pile of seeds and see what looks remotely viable. From what I've seen so far I should get a decent amount. I'm hoping later this year to do a 10-20 plant run of these and see what they look like.

Hey T I don't know if I told on this thread or not. The cross was between one of my C99 girls (from female seeds), and a (sin city seeds) Sinmint Cokkies male. The male was one of 2 that I got. I chose the one I did as it seemed to have a noteable mint smell to the stem when rubbed, and a decent structure. I'm not really sure what to expect from the cross, other then I think it should be quality. The C99 I used was a fantastic plant, great structure, fast finishing, and awesome trippy smoke. I'm going to be calling the cross "SIN-D99" to represent both heritages.

Yeah that is crazy...the problem is, I'd rather deal with negative temperatures than tornadoes any day lol
unfortunately we have tornado weather about 80 percent of the time
