Scooby's 6000w Water Cooled Costa Rican Grow Room

Was running 2 8x8 tents at my house for the longest time. Early last year started preparing for this grow but I had to skip back to the U.S. for a few months and put everything on hold. The day has finally come to get this bad boy going.

Building a dedicated 36'x12' space on the back of my property. All of the cooling will be provided by a 5 ton self-contained chiller from ChillKing with dual reservoirs. Will be running a 2 ton water cooled air handler in the flower room and a 1 ton in the veg room. Running Ice Box heat exchangers on all of the hoods. I could have upsized the a/c's and done away with the heat exchangers but I have them and I have to run manifold lines in the rooms anyway for the Co2 burners so I decided just to use them. They work great at keeping the heat out of your hoods which allows me to have my plants closer to the light and extends the life of my bulbs.

The water cooled air handlers are from ChillKing as well. They are literally plug and play units that require no HVAC installation or pressurizing of lines. The great thing about them is that they can dehumidify without cooling. A/C units need to cool in order to dehumidify which means that if they are not running then they don't dehumidify. I also use a MiniGen water cooled Co2 burner in veg and HydroGen Pro water cooled Co2 burner in flower.

Not sure on the strains we're going to run just yet. I have some new beans from a trusted breeder and some mom's at another site that I may pick from. As the date gets near i'll figure that out. We still have about 2 weeks of construction left and some things I'm waiting on to be shipped down but I thought i'd get the thread up and going to journal the construction as well.

We do all of our own construction, electrical and plumbing. Plans this year are to run an 800ppm test between DynaGro and Advanced. See who has a more complete formula. Also gonna be running some House and Garden to test it out and some of their additives. Also running an Alaska Humisoil tea that i'll be brewing. I grow in Sunshine #4 mix with worm castings and a little lime.

Everyone is welcome and so are opinions and questions.

this is the final design of the room.

super awesome. house and garden aqua flakes is really great stuff. 10-4-10 npk. no need for any comparison in my book. and the sunshine #4 with a touch of extras is exactly the best soilless in the world. sounds like fun. enjoy the good times.

welcome max, we have crawfish where I grew up in the states but these are different. Much bigger and different body type. Lots of good pork and chicken down here. Beef is a little harder to come by, depends on where you live. If you live in a tourist area then you can get by speaking just English, tourist area tend to be more expensive though. The economy is strong but don't expect to find work as a foreigner, you will have to make it on your own. Either starting your own business or possibly finding a foreigner here to hire you. Not speaking the language really limits you.

Subbed. If I ever get the money together to buy my yacht I'd love to come and take a look at that. Always dreamt of going to South America regardless, that would be the cherry lol.

made some changes to the room and design to maximize the space.

36' Room Furnished.jpg

I started thinking about all the bending down we have to do so I decided to build platforms for my plants. since I have 10' ceiling I decided to make some changes.

gonna run 2 600's for my vegging plants. i'm going to run each light over 4x4 flood table. we're welding stands for each table out of galvanized 1x1 tubing that will support the trays. we're gonna slant them 1" to the side and attach drains. this way any runoff can easily be collected and running a garden hose over the tray every once and a while will keep it very clean. at about 3' height on the tray it should be optimal. adding a 3/4 hose bib and a short 25' hose to the room to help clean out the trays when need be. both trays will drain to a p-trap I have under the air handler for condensation.

building a bench out of concrete for the T5 lamps that gives me enough room on the east wall to erect a 3x3 tent for drying. i'll be using a small can 33 filter and a 4" fan to create a passive in take into the tent. my veg room environment is ideal for fermenting buds. will add a few clip on fans as well. the tent will keep it totally dark while slowing the fermentation and curing process.

I got to shopping on amazon and picked up a 3x3 chest freezer to put right as you walk in the front door on your right. I need a place to keep my sugar leaf frozen and it helps to have some cold beverages around. while on amazon I found a rheem 15 gallon point of use hot water heater. not that I need it but I like having warm water on tap.

going to be feeding my plants in flower with a 55 gallon reservoir that I found a set of casters. it's actually a dolly from the car parts section. supports up to 1500lbs so I should be good. will be running drip steaks in each pot with a mag rive pump. i'll mix my nutes and then just roll them into the flower room and throw the pump on. added a float valve and a timer which will allow me to walk away for up to a week or 2 with no worries. the float valve fills the reservoir with just water. if I feed them then walk away and put the pump on a timer then they should be fine with just water for 2-3 feedings. worst case scenario, I can easily show my helper how to add some light N food and some a&b nute.

the 150amp loadcenter will feed the chiller outside, both air handlers, a powerbox-dpc 1200td for the flower room and exhaust fans and a powerbox dpc-7500 combo for the veg room and fans. besides that and the hot water heater everything else will be shop lights and receptacles. i'll be running #10 wiring to all outlets off 30 amp breakers. maximum of 2 outlets per circuit. all rooms will have dedicated 15 amp circuits for shop lighting.

there are 2 p-trap drains in each plant room directly under the air handlers to expel condensation off the coils. I will have a hydro-logic big boy pre-filter and evolution 1000 r/o filter in the work area. this will entail a manifold to supply the reservoir in flower if I need to keep it in there while away and also a supply line in the workshop for nutrient mixing for both veg and flower rooms.

decided to filter the intake on the air handlers as well with 12" heap filters. going to use a plenum to then duct the exhaust air and distribute it to 4 suspension vents evenly spaced out.

I've got a rail system with pulleys which will make raising the lights pretty easy. I also have a black out curtain that will block off either side of flower if I need to put the other one in darkness before harvest.

sure hope you guys stick around. this is gonna get interesting. I've got more tools than home depot and I love building shit.

Awesome grow room plan and construction. If I decide to apply for Pensionado Residency status, do you have contacts that can facilitate?

for sure bro...it's a bit of a process depending on how you go about it. As a business owner, a retiree, or married to a costa rica. usually takes about a year but after 6 months you essentially have all the rights.
