Hi guys, just got my new area 51 XGS 190 led light.
The faq on their site says 20 - 24" during flower, seems so far from the light to me, I have enough room for it but I only have one plant going at a time. My rooms 1.5ft by 2.1ft. Should I use the recommended or lower it.
Also have something going on with the brown spots etc any possible answers would be great thanks.

I have a SGS-160 and decided to not take their advice on distance and really cooked a young plant. I grow one plant, am at week 9 flower and have it at 15 inches but would move it higher if I could, I ran out of height in my 6' tent! I'm getting some slight bleaching on the main cola. These lights are amazing, you are going to love working with the 190.

Won't attempt to help with the deficiency.

Haha shit, okay I just moved her up to 20 inch which is their minimum I guess, still have another 20 inch of height to play with.
I did have it at 15 inch before, 20 seems so bloody far away, 30 is going to be insane for seedlings.

I have a feeling the deficiency is mag or cal.
Only my second grow so still learning.

That looks like a calcium deficiency. Give it a good flush with water and after a few days give it some calmag with your normal nutrients. I like General Hydroponic's CaliMagic. Also, with your current setup, you should follow A51's guidelines. Maybe a little closer but the tight lens angle over those XTE's makes for enough to really OD the tops. If I had one, I would get it close but it would be on a light rail. My current setup uses a 126x 3w I modified to 45 degree lenses. WAY too intense to be close but I run it at 4" above the tops on a mover. A pause of 10 seconds at each end of the rail is the only time it isn't in motion. No bleaching and super penetration. I may very well be purchasing one of the XGS 190's sometime this year.

Yes I thought it might have have cal or Mag Def.
Ye I've gone with their distances as they know more than me Lol.
I don't have any cal/mag we can't get it here but I do have some earth juice micro blast stuff but don't think it has cal in it?
My other Nutes I'll be using next grow have cal and mag in it but the current organic stuff in using doesn't I don't think.

That's a Cal/Mag deficiency you have there, it's very common amongst LED growers, you're going to need a bottle of this...

dont sweat it man, you are far enough along I wouldnt do anything to fix it or I wouldnt stress over it... but that`s my style and also I grow in supersoil. I have had plants showing calmag def very early on, never did anything about it and still grew really nice nugs. The plants looked like shit at the end but again that's my style!

like bad Karma said though if you really want to do something about it , ... you have to pay visit to your local hydrostore and buy calmag!!

Thankyou all for the replies.
We don't really have cal/mag here, I've looked in hydro stores but don't have it.
I could order from over seas but won't be here for a while..
I give it some micro Nutes but pretty sure it only has mag in it, just need something for the cal.
I had this problem last grow but it was real early and come out okay, but I'll see if I can feed my other Nutes that has calcium already in it? Would that be okay?

Ground up egg shells are a good source of Calcium. Grind them into a fine powder and either mix into your water or just sprinkle the powder onto the top soil and water through it. It isn't as fast or good as Calmag but it should help.

Kelp has calcium and epsom salt has magnesium.
Can I use Dolomite lime and just water it in some how? I can get that here.
Also just ph'd my run off and it's at 5.0ish.. Kinda low, not sure how to bring this up.
Could it be low because I haven't flushed the whole time during this grow? 6 weeks veg and 4 weeks into flower?
Ideas on what to do?

yeah. Use powder dole lime. Otherwise in rock form it takes 1-2 years to break down. Soak and/or aerate for a day or 2.

There's another product you can find at farm supplies called high calcium limestone, 95% calcium.

Sweet so this will work just as good as cal/mag?
Should I mix some into my soil next grow so I don't have problems and it'll help with ph?
As my run off water at the moment is 5.0

You can add food grade citric acid to the soak water and it will dissolve the dolomite. Give it 24 hours or so. You can find citric acid powder at Walmart in the canning section or order on eBay.

That said, messing with the pH may or may not be helpful. I never mess with or even bother checking pH, I just depend on good compost/EWC. Bright light makes for very hungry plants, so I just try to make sure they have enough soil and the right amount of nutrient built into the soil. Some plants are just more sensitive than others but they often will still yield great nugs.

Thanks.

Apparently dolomite lime is slow to work or something.. Going to buy some tmrw anyhow to help with ph in the next grow, it's cheap as anyhow.
So does it work like cal/mag or na?

I used it for remineralizing lab quality R/O water (2ppm->50ppm). It is like making your own confined aquifer spring water. I have tried a few methods of dissolving dolomite and found citric acid to be the easiest and cleanest. I like it better than calmag because calmag often includes nitrogen. I grow with ROLS so didn't feel comfortable using calmag products.

I was lucky enough to gain access to some very good well water so I no longer need to use R/O+dolomite. The well water is about 130ppm and smells a bit sulphury when it first comes out which I love. Well water pH is 7.5. I have just been using that and haven't had to check pH in years. When I recycle the soil I no longer add dolomite.

When it comes down to it, if my soil mixture is too weak the ladies let me know in veg with obvious deficiencies of all sorts. But if it is strong enough they will love the LED light.
