what can i say, i like building stuff. this is 50W of 1:1:1 of 5630WW:5050Red:5630CW on a thin tin disposable baking sheet. I don't know when I'll have time to test it, but I bet this could grow a stellar single cola. If anyone cares, it's about $10 of lights (which i have plenty of laying around from previous experiments) and a $7 50W 12V ac/dc adapter.

When are we going to have a cheap-ass light grow contest? :)

cool stuff, u should run with this idea! i bet it would be great for people doing see of green. 1 light per plant, 1 plant per sq/ft (that is if it's really drawing 50watts... if it's drawing 30watts, 2 plants and 2 lights per sq/ft!)

I tested 1 leg @18W earlier, just tested the whole contraption @ 48W at the plug - not sure how much is loss to deficiencies of the ac/dc adapter.

Fucking great idea!! But applying it to my grow as Green Santa suggested, I run 72 lolli-popped plants at a time under 2K of HID light. Using this, that would be 3600w. 1600 more than I use now. Over half again more. While I don't see it in my immediate future, there is MOST DEFINITELY a market for that jewel!!! That is just plain slick!!!

anyone wanting to scale like that would save big $$ using appropriately sized computer power supplies instead of one per tentacle-light.

I'm listening......
I'm just saying in power supply costs. $7-8 per 50w vs buying computer power supplies on special - you can get 600-700W PS for $50-70 on sale I think.

So, i'm not trying to sell you on the idea - it would need to be proven and someone would need to see what the longevity of these things are. Chronikool and Paneleta have both completed led strip grows with decent results on a small scale. I've built a few lights but don't have much space and haven't done any complete grows (mostly for lack of space and other conditions). In reality, i should probably ship this to someone who would actually test it appropriately because it takes me a long time to find the time and space to get adequate testing done.

Man, I got nothing going on at the moment, or I'd be happy to test it. I'd say that it has REAL possibilities. How many lumens (or the equivalent of lumens) hits the plant from that setup?

No idea really - these LEDs are inexpensive and don't come with specs. The LEDs run about $15 per 5M for 5630s - this contraption has 3.15M which is where I got my rough $10 figure.

may take you up on your offer - give me a few days to decide whether i can find a place to throw it in my cab.
