Your experience with Co2

First off, when you mix the sugar and water and yeast is it activated when it is mixed or is "active yeast" as they refer to it a totally different thing? (im alittle confused.):-|

And can you suppliment Co2 by simply placing an open soda in the grow room?

Also do you guys suppliment at night, day or both?

Hey Yummybuds.....

Co2 is great stuff, asuming you are using HID lighting.

I've not heard of placing an open soda in a grow room for added co2.
I doubt it would do much more than go flat.

Co2 is only beneficial during the lights on cycle.

Here is a simple recipe that I came across, I believe it has it's merits:
Items Required:
* 10lb. white sugar
* 5 gallon clean bucket W/lid
* 4 1/2 gallons of water
* A piece of toast browned and hard
* A table spoon of dry active yeast (for baking bread)

First boil the water, (this will ensure clean water) remove from the heat and add the sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves. Let cool until water is room temperature (if you don't let it cool down it won't work).
After the sugar water has cooled, float the piece of toast on top of the water. Now, empty the tablespoon of yeast over the toast. After a few days, the yeast will take over the toast and start making bubbles (CO2) in the bucket. After a week, the amount of bubbling (CO2) will increase.
Keep the lid airtight on the bucket. CO2 travels up the dispersion tubing, and due to it being heavier than air, falls directly onto your plants. Timing your exhaust, is essential in maintaining an effective level of CO2.
I hope this helps you.
Peace

I use a similar "recipe" for CO2, but different measurements and no toast. All you need is

* Empty Gallon Container
* 3 Tablespoons of Active Yeast
* 6 cups of Sugar
* 1/2 Gallon of water
* Lid for gallon container (poke pencil like hole in it)

Mix the Yeast, Sugar, and Water in the empty gallon container and shake it up for a minute or 2. The next day your mixture should be ready and when you shake the container you will hear or feel the air (CO2) come from the container. Mixture should be good for 2-4 weeks. Shake your container up, then put the container in the grow room (while lights are on). CO2 will slowly release for a little bit. Try and shake up at least 2 times a day. Preferably 3-4. Ghetto, but it works and allows your babies to sustain a higher temperature. I think Videoman's techinque might release a little more then the above "recipe". 5 Gallon container...god damn! Good luck.

Excellent info guys, thanks!

I'm using 4 2700K CFL floros right now to get my plant flowering. Even though they are CFL's they are getting a bit warm and have noticed some wilting, so hopefully this will help out a bit whil making them healthier also.
