Would (5) 400 watt lights emit more heat in the grow room then (2) 1000 watt lights...

The reason i am asking is that i know my ac can maintain the correct temps when i have 2 1000 watt lights running but i am not sure if they can handle 5 400 watt lights...

fyi: ballasts in both senerios would be outside the room if that makes any differnece.

Iwould thinks so but not sure. U would deff lose luminus useing the 400's over the 1000. Ide go with 3 600's. Bout the samw luminis withe cheeper hyrdo and prob less heat.

I'm not sure, but I would like to know the reason you wanna switch. I have a single 400 watt hps and I've been thinking about going to a 1000 watt. but if 400's are better I'll just grab another 400.

welll its more like im working with what ive got,i have and am using 1000 wat lights at the moment 2 lights over a 4 x8 table.but im setting up a new grow for a freind and he only has 400 watt light that he purchased a year ago...

I dont really want to invest in 1000 watt lights when we have these ones kicking around plus i think it would be a neat experiment to see what kind of yeild i can pull with 5 400 watt lights over a table compared to 2 1000 watt lights over the same table....

Now the main reason for this post is regarding the heat because i know my acs can maintain correct temps with 2 1000 watt lights i just dont know if they will be able to maintain those temps with 5 400 watt lights.... maybe they can espaiclly since its getting colder out

Anyone ever tried this or has any expeiance with using the same amount of waattege just spread out differnetly and its effect on heat?

i would want to say yes because there would be more surface area in terms of bulbs = more heat ?

yea anon my common sense tells me yes as well.... would be great to hear from someone with first hand experiance, then i will know if i shoudl buy an extra ac or not...

From a heat standpoint, you'll generate less heat using 2 1000s. 5 400s would get hotter.

Are u 100% sure about this like have u tried doing seomthing like this before....

Maybe im better off investing in 2 1000 watt then investing in another ac if i go 5 400 watts?

My friend uses 1000 watt system, and I use a 400 watt system, so I know first hand the output of heat from both...really its a no brainer because you're using two bulbs instead of five....either way, make no mistake, you won't be able to to either without having air cooled hoods, so just from a cost view, you'll need more equipment, more fans, more ducting if you go with the five, but do what you want.

yea im kinda seeing that 2..... thanks so much guys for the input without this disscusion i woulld have wasted a bunch of time and money trying things that wouldnt work from the sounds of it its much better investment for me to get the 2 1000 watt then to be worrying about extra heat cuease d by th 5 400 watts results in possibly an extra ac and or cool tube.

Cheers!!!!!:)
