i have seen in a post someone wanted to know how to wire a light socket without getting shocked...thought this might help someone out
SHUT OFF BREAKER PLEASE...if you have to ask how to do it then you dont need to try this with hot circuts
most lights you will use will be 110v-120v
WATTS DIVIDED BY VOLTS WILL GIVE YOU THE AMPS
DONT OVERLOAD YOUR CIRCUT
14 guage wire is good for 15 amps
12 guage wire is good for 20 amps
get 14/2 or 12/2 romex wire if you wire a complete circut from the breaker panel...it may say 2 conductor but there are 3 wires in it...2 insulated and one bare ground wire
the nationwide standard is-black wire to brass terminal...white wire to silver terminal and bare wire to green terminal on 110v-120v circuts...that means -switches,recepticles,sockets and cords...if you are using this voltage then this is the way to hook up the wires
DONT SPLICE WIRES IF YOU DONT ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO
RUN A NEW WIRE BEFORE YOU SPLICE THEM
even properly done i believe they create a small amount of heat due to resistence at the connection...i know certified electricians do it all the time...they keep them to a minimum and the company they work for has insurance if they burn your house down from it...YOU DONT WANT THE FIRE CHEIF REPORTING YOUR FIRE STARTED IN YOUR FANCY GROW ROOM
i do my own wiring because i dont want friends speculating why my hidden room has so many circuts...hope this helps someone out...i have probably forgot something here but if i didnt you would be reading it right now...someone else may have suggestions also...REMEMBER...DO NOT DO THIS ON A HOT CIRCUT
