Will plant preflower automatically???

If a regular photo period plant is vegged long enough, will plant automatically preflower with maturity? Or does preflower only begin once 12/12 is initiated? Wondering if the transition to flowering will be faster, if the plant isn't forced.

Yes some strains will show preflowers vegging long enough.... some do not tho
