Will my tent get too hot?

Hi all :)

I just moved into a house with my boyfriend and decided I'd love to start growing again. I was previously growing indoors in a bedroom closet next to a window a/c unit with CFL's and a UFO LED... even that got pretty hot. I want to get a 600w HPS to flower and use the CFL's to veg.

I want to grow in an unfinished attic, and by the time I flower, the temps should consistently be in the 40's/30's. If I have a regular (not vented/cooled) reflector hood for my 600w HPS, would a small intake fan at the bottom of the tent and exhaust fan at the top be enough to sufficiently cool my 48"x24"x60" tent in 30-40 degree weather?

yes in the cold temp you will succeed but for that size of a tent i did two 250 bulbs because it is a rectangle if you want to go with the 600 i advise you to go get a 4x4 or 3x3 tent as a 600w is good for both of these i got half a pound in that tent with 2 250w hps which is the average .5 gram a watt also did SOG with 32 plants ak-47 strain. what size fan are you using as this will also be a BIG factor to if you can keep it cool in there. also i might add that in the night cycle you will need a way to keep the tent at 60 degrees or higher.... 65 being optimal

i dont think cfls will heat up enough in cold temps to keep both tents up to temp youd have to run hps in both tents then...never used led so dont know how much heat is thrown off

Put Hid in attic,on 8pm to 8am.Coldest time is RT before sunrise, most places.
Get a small heater, set timer 8am to 8pm.Could get a T-stat that the heater plugs in,just a thought.
put heater with HID,for when lights are off,or ya might even need with lights on.
This will work with some tweaking.

I would make a box from R-max board,For veg n clones.Dont know how big ya gonna vegg em,So this might not work.
Not big if using Cfls.
I did it 10yrs ago when I started,with x4 42w cfls and they grew up to 3'.
I bought a Fixture that goes in Bathrooms a 4 outlet,like in most APT.Bathrooms...
Made box, mounted the fixture, and used to 6" fans @ each end of box one
pulling and one pushing.Need a small piece of a 2"x6" or 2"x12" to mount to top for fixture.
Then I coveredwith the r-max.Good luck very easy.

Depending on your heating situation in you house you could also go threw your attic to find draft points. I am also in an unfinished attic with 2 windows one on either side of the house. I foamed in the windows to stop drafts and fill any holes that you could see threw. The peak where there are usually gaps I also filled with filler. It raised my temps in the attic over 20 degrees I now sit around 50 degrees when it is 30 degrees out. And this is degrees F I am talking.

even with no insulation killing drafts will raise your temps not a lot but a little. but that little might be more then what you need if you have a small space heater or enough lights with the draft fix. I like in a house that was built back in the 1800s though. You might have a different story. But finding air leaks will help a little. Also might help your bills a little as you would lose less heat in general.

hope that helps.

You might want to consider adding an attic fan to blow air out on a thermostat control for if it gets too hot. Its not super complicated and im guessing youll be having some electrical in the attic anyway so hooking it up shouldnt be hard.
