Why the price difference in seeds?

I am looking on the net at seeds. I see that bcseedking has Northern Lights #5 x Haze for $50.00 for 15 seeds. Another site has them listed for $119.00. is this possibly the difference in the currencies? Anyone know if $50.00 for this strain sounds too good to be true or is $119.00 a ripoff?

yup supply and demand.

if you only knew how many seeds come from the plants.....

i had 4 seeded grand master kush plants (10 ounces) and it gave me over a thousand seeds.

too bad i dont have a website to sell them ;)

$50 does sound cheap so you need to look if they are genuine and if they are a reliable seller. Ive seen NL feminised seeds for $50 but the NL#5 is closer to the $120 price you quoted as far as I know.

It is not supply and demand, it is quality of the seeds. If any of you have ever grown Nivana compared to THSeeds, you would see the difference. The expensive seeds are going to be more uniform, consistent, and usually better buds.

The expensive seeds are usually strains they have been working on for like 2 or 3 years. Selecting mothers/fathers, doing major seed runs to see which parents do best together, etc. The cheaper companies will just any ol' mother/father and sell their offspring even though it is not consisten and they have no idea how it will turn out.

Both times I have grown Nirvana strains, which I will never do again, I ended up with every single plant looking different and taking a different amount of time to flower. It sucks when you get 7 females but 6 of the 7 are crap and the one good one isn't even that good. Spend the extra money and get quality genetics.

It is not only genetics, supply & demand and breeding. A lot has to go with the reputation of the breeders. They can demand a higher price if they have a history of breeding quality seeds and people are happy with them. Now there is nothing to say that some small house cannot sell you quality seeds but then you have to take your chances. There was a small hot seed company around a few months ago and its web site is still up and there prices looked good, but then after a short period, they stopped sending out seeds and have kept everyone’s money. Therefore, you pay a lot for a company's reputation.

I know people who have bought from BCSeedKing and they have and had some good grows. You take your chances with smaller seed banks as they come and go fast.

it does have alot to do with quality and genetics but some of these seeds banks are just plain out ripping asses out here...you can look on a seedbank sight that will charge you 120.00for say some mk seeds from dutch passion but you can go to seed boutique (the company I use) and they will sell you the same seeds from the same breeder for 30-50% cheaper then the others...don't be confused buddy just shop at seedboutique.com...in my experience they have been the most reliable with the most reasonable prices...thats just my opinion thgh.

I think dankydodle is talking about seedbanks with diff prices not the breeders who create the seeds...and yes danky 50.00 bucks is reasonable because I paid 55.00 for 10 seeds of master kush (original packaging not opend) and i am not disapointed...also if you order from seedboutique you get 5 extra seeds, I fuckin love the company.

Thanks for every single reply. My thought on it is that there is a middle man somewhere getting his cut. I suppose that is how some breeders prefer to distribute their stock...safer that way? Anyway, being one who always thinks you get what you pay for, I am inclined to spend the extra bucks. I am really more interestd in getting quality seeds with the best genetics than I am saving money on seeds, but why spend more than you have to. Now if anyone has a good suggestion for a second indoor grow, where the temps might be a little high from time to time. Please advise. thanks!
