Why move the light when you can move the plant?

I see so many setups with light movers to deal with the plant shading itself.

Why move the light when you could just put a rotating platter under the pots?

Most people have more than one plant, so it's cheaper/easier to install one light mover than it is to move a load of pots. Also by moving the pot/s you risk damaging your plant/s.:peace:

I really meant a platter under each pot. A rotating pot isn't going to be prone to damage unless your plants start touching each other, I'd imagine.

Also, that might help with stalk strengthening instead of using a fan, since the slight rotation would make the plant wobble just a wee bit, as if a fan were blowing on it.

Would cost a hell of a lot more money to move each plant than to just use your light mover...

Yeah but the fan also has the benefit of moving the air around the grow, whereas the leaves just brushing up against each other in addition to the stress they are receiving being all "wobbly" does not really improve the environment for the plant.

I've had the same idea actually....But in the end - just move the light - trust me :)

I think you missed what I was saying in the post. I was saying that the fan at least has the benefit of moving the air in the grow area, whereas the plants just brushing up against each other and wobbling around has no benefit.

I love my light mover, and just don't see the logic in moving the plants instead... If I just moved my plants and had no light mover, I would have half the plants.

Light movers best use is to extend the area of available light. Getting past the shading leaves is second priority in my grow... as I am more concerned with the development of the top cola.

Growtech - I am currently building a room with the use of light movers. I am very excited to see them in use :) They are an extremely energy efficient way to have more grow space. Did you see smaller yield per plant when you installed them since they don't have focused light on them constantly?

Yes, they are definitely a product to have. Can save you a load of money. The difference in plants I've seen on a system with a light mover, compared to a system of equal scale not on a light mover is hardly noticeable.

I run a 1000W hps light over a 4x8 sog tray end to end, all plants seem to do well considering all it is really is bud development since they go into flower almost as soon as they root.

Once I have some time I'm going to make a video of the op, and do video journals on RIU via YouTube or another media sharing site... Taking pictures and uploading them, and doing all of that crap has started annoying me, and I don't want to do it any more.

If you want to do video, forget youtube's "HD" - Vimeo is the place to go for that.

My main thought with this whole thing is similar to the light mover, but instead of moving the light to get the plants evenly lit you move the plants. It may not take more energy, if you have a proper pulley system. In fact a large gear at low rotation driving a much smaller gear would create a higher rotation you could feed along several belts to individual platters, like a simple pulley system.

It's also just a thought as an alternative to those that don't want to deal with a moving wire, which seems like a fire hazard (wire to the bulb.)

.......Its an idea, but theres a reason it isnt being done. Under My plants I want something that is easily removable and easy to clean. Thats it. If I had some contraption to move plants it would be hassle to deal with and guaranteed a bitch to clean.

If you dont know how to properly set up a light on a light rail then dont do it. Its that simple. Its not a fire hazard if its set up correctly, and it really is not difficult to set up a light rail, just get longer lamp chords if you need them, and have the lamp chord hanging from the roof in the midddle over the rail, with enough slack to go both ways.....definitely not a fire hazard.

I would say a table of moving plants would be more of a fire hazard than a light rail.
