Why is g/W used as the benchmark?

I understand that it is a nice number that ranges around 1.0, but since time is electricity = money, wouldn't it be more useful to use e.g grams/(watts*hours) or even grams/(watts*months)?

That would differentiate between longer/expensive/high-yield grows and shorter/cheaper/low-yield grows that use the same lighting.

Just curious...

Wow
Such a complex question from a new member.
Much better then the usual how much and is this ready?
I think gpw is still used because it has been around and used this long. Reliablity and lack of alternative most would understand.
There's no other real reason otherwise.
It's a terrible marker imho

Yeah i like g/kwh but almost nobody really uses it. I think ppl go with 1g/1w cause its just easy to remember and it sounds good doesnt it?? Never gotten there personally lol my last grow was .45g/w

Grams per watt is an entirely useless metric. The simple fact is that there are so many variables to take into account from grower to grower that it is meaningless.

Yeah honestly for personal use thats all that matters

Yeah I need my 16 to 22 oz for my head. :-)

Actually I space out my plants a week to 10 days and they are mostly from seed and different strains and crosses each time. So no way to really meter the results than output.

The truth, it's too much effort for most stoners - I however thing a g/kWH/m^2 would be an even better metric of performance.

Why not clones? I love clones they make things so efficient

I have kept some clones here and there. But a new seed plant always ends up peaking my interest. And I love the variety.

But I have a plant count to stick to and honestly regret not keeping one going so far.

If I can ever get it done I will eventually have a mother room for my favorite phenos.

As far as outside clones. I have a strict no tolerance policy. Well so far anyway. I guess the right grower with the right plant could work.

I can keep a mother plant alive under one 23 watt cfl with a box fan for air circulation in the room next to my closet grow tent so the airs exchanged from time to time. Heres my 4 plants im keeping rn

Grams per light watt is just an easy way to gauge performance.

You can over-complicate things if you like.

Well you say that but consider a long flowering sativa vs pure indica.. Power consumption is very different even with the same g/w ratio

So i guess it depends whether your trying to guage how much your getting per grow or how much money your spending on production
