Why don't more people get busted for posting their grows online?

So there are tons of people on this site as well as others posting pictures of their illegal grow rooms from their home computer. It seems incredibly easy for law enforcement to get a warrant and trace the IP. Thoughts?

To start with i'm sure there would be issue behind proving the nationality and location of the user in order to obtain a warrant to trace the IP. It's just a circle that they can't break into until you give them a valid piece of publicly available evidence pointing out who you are what you're doing. With regard to the point about uploading photo's from a different location, another good reason they can't get a warrant that easily, too many circumstances where the IP adress has nothing to do with the actual grow op, police would start getting into hot water for issueing warrants on perfectly innocent people, companies etc.

I think the best answer is if this forum wasn't safe, we wouldn't be here ~ I've never read a thread linking the cause of their arrest to be this forum or any other.

They can use what's on your computer if you get busted for evidence but they won't use it to bust you. Too many variables.

I've seen 1, maybe 2 of those? Any that are up are undoubtedly from people who have a good reason not to worry about their secrecy.

putting a face next to an oporation or grow where its illeagal???

I have, about a year ago. They even posted a news article stating it was the forum posts that busted the person.

i would like to see the posts/article. Im sure it happens, but i would like to see the conditions that led to the arrest. Was he posting his location? was he a freggin gigantic op? was he selling? etc etc

It just dawned on me though... can cops even find out your IP address from a forum post? I think only mods can see them right?

They can obtain a warrant to get that information from the hosting company and/or site owner but it would just be too much effort for them. As long as you aren't posting pictures of yourself, location, the fact you are selling illegally, etc you'll be fine. Only dumb people get sent to prison.

Most people on here grow legally and/or for personal gross I would say, so not much point busting us.

I havent seen too many grows that are large scale. A lot of grows are legal and for the illegal ones, cops are not going to waste their time with small timers with a couple thousand watts, at least not around here in BC.

yes, it was here on RIU, the person only had a couple plants. And as far as IP, I have seen people on other forums post the ip address of people posting just to prove that they couldn't hide. How it was done I don't know.

Ultimately, no public forum is safe from prying eyes. Rollitup.org included. What's really funny is folks are concerned about anonymous pictures and grow advice posted on this forum compromising privacy when Facebook exsists. I'll bet most everyone here has one too. Anything and everything that a serial rapist or sworn enemy needs to know is there, they just have to look... And besides, unless you have a major grow operation and it's pretty obvious you're going to do nothing but distribute pot you're probably OK. Most of the users of this site grow for personal/medical use and it's near irrelevant to LEO. They want cash cows, and Joe ClosetGrow isn't it.
