Why doesn't my HPS bulb work? :(

Okay, So I ordered two 400w HPS bulbs. I have 2 Cooper 400w bay ballasts. On the side, It clearly says MH,HPS,HG(I don't know what the last one stands for)
So I asked someone with some experience on lighting and electricity. He said it was a universal ballast. I could use any of those three lights in it..
My issue here is.. The Metal Halides work just fine in it, but the High Pressure Sodium bulb isn't lighting.. at all.. any recommendations? :wall:

A lot of times there is a switch somewhere to change from MH to HPS, see if your has a switch that may look like on/off but if you look may say MH/HPS

Thanks Super2200, I will have to crack the bitch open, to see if there are any switches.. This will be fun..
From what I have seen it should not be on the iside where you need to disassemble anything, if it has the switch it should be very easily noticed on the outside somewhere. If you dont have one then I am wondering if you have a bad bulb.

This site has few brands but bulbs usually on sale

while you have it open, look for an ignitor. both HPS and MH have a capacitor but only HPS will have an ignitor. a cap is a small round tube w/ 2 wires coming out of it - be carefull-it will store electricity even when unplugged. the ing is a small box w/ 3 wires coming off it. the ballast may be designed for either but not come w/ an ign or it may be disconected. units w/ a switch will add/remove the ignitor depending on type of bulb used
