Why didn't my humidity change?

Quick question before i head to work...

last night i added our humidifier to my eperimntal grow closet... really i'm just trying to get the humidity right and work on conditions like that... it's really not a large space at all... with 113 watts of CFL in there the temp is like 72-79 so i'm plased there... but overnight with the humidifier on high, it didn't change at all, still just at 27% this morning- any ideas on why i wouldn't work at all?

maybe it's a silly question but if there's something i'm missing i'd love to know

for some reason my phone won't let me post here so i'll be trolling for responses but won't be able to post while at work - thanks alls

Most likely due to the ambient temps and humidity or its a defective unit.. In colder climates household air tends to be excessively dry due to heating and its more beneficial to use a house humidifier verses a room unit if this is the case ..

My guess would be your grow area is not sealed. Combine that answer with the good Professor's answer (the ambient air can be quite dry with heating). So without a sealed grow room his small humidifier is attempting to raise the humidity in the entire area.

Some choices would be to seal the grow room from the rest of your house or grow area, or to not care about the humidity a whole lot if you are new and worry about dialing that in when you reach sealed grow room skill level. Anyway I'm very much a newbie on growing. Others with a lot more knowledge and experience will be around soon.

Or.... OP might have just put his RH meter too near the air intake, and has dry air running across the meter...
Or Gauge is faulty...
You did feel the humidity coming out of the humidifier didn't you ?
If you have really soft water, sometimes, you need to add salt to water the first time so the water can turn to vapor...

I had the same issue, could not get my humidity up into the desired 40-45% range....so i just gave up, now I let it be, which is typically around 25-30%

as a few posts have stated, it's not critical to have the perfect humidity...nice but not essential

I'm with Indoor Sun King. I no longer worry about RH.
I have 29% in my vegetation room and 43% in my flower room right now.

thanks for the info guys- i really was not aware that humidity wasn't a huge factor. its a pretty small closet and some air can escape under the makeshift door but it's pretty well sealed otherwise, so i'm thinking the humidifier just sucks or the temp/humidity gauge sucks - either way i'm grateful to learn soemthing new today, thx again
