Who will be the first LP Granted an Import Permit?

Division 6 of the MMPR allows for import from other countries. I suspect this will give whoever gets one of these contracts a huge advantage in the marketplace if they can import very cheap cannabis. Any prospective LPs here looking into this yet?

Good point. I should clarify: Who will be the First domestic LP to be importing cannabis from a 'cheap' country? There are countries who, like Uruguay for example, will be able to produce and export for 1 or $2 a gram. I doubt it will happen before q3 or 4 of this year, but it is likely coming, and will drive prices down a lot.

I'm not interested in doing so, but Ive wondered if there wouldnt be tariffs/duties and taxes on imported product from countries that we dont have free trade agreements with(not sure if uruguay is one of them), as its not a prescription drug with a DIN of which has the benefit of having no tariffs.

No frick'en way..... We will strictly source all of our building material and equipment locally and grow authentic BC strains. Nothing from China in my facility, period!

Grown in Canada, by Canadians, for Canadians.

You betcha.....grow room's built from freezer panel, manufactured in BC. It would be next to impossible to source everything local, but we will try. Some exceptions, Gavita lights from Netherlands, leader pumps from Italy, Air King fans from USA, HVAC made in USA. All electrical components custom made in BC. BC nutrients, hydroponic equipment BC manufactured. And me 100% BC born and Bred....

cheers itsme.

So... not exactly 'all' your building materials... :)

Pedantic question: What's more 'local' for someone in BC, something from Washington State or Oregon or Cali, or from Nova Scotia?

Jamaica does not have a real medical marijuana program that works but they are building one and there is just 1 research company licensed by the govt. I know Jamaicans are expecting to be able to export Ganja real soon.
I have family who grows in Jamaica and in April I will be going down for a wedding and to look into a greenhouse and a license to grow for export. Investment wont be hard to find but Jamaicans are missing the point about regulations and expecting to flood the export market with cheap outdoor.

I doubt cheap outdoor would pass HC testing requirements. I'm sure they'll learn that either before, or very soon after they start exporting to Canada.

cheap outdoor yeah I'd agree. Good outdoor I'd wager will pass, given than the limits are based on other herbal products that are cultivated outdoors, which is why the restriction on outdoor cultivation is complete garbage, costs would plumet!

The CEO of medcanaccess and another lawyer are working with Jamaica to build a medical program. They are saying they want the regulations to be in line with HC marijuana which would be pointless growing indoor in Jamaica. However if we are talking about Jamaican soil and gated greenhouses to keep within regulations. I think Jamaica can take their rightful position in the marijuana industry.

I try and do my best to source things locally here in BC, but some things are out of my control. In the grand scheme of things, I try to keep with Canadian companies. There are exceptions though, IE. Incinerator. I can get one from ontario, for 3x the cost and have it shipped across the country, or get one in Washington State, 2 hrs away. A no brainier, for me. Another example, Vault. Ontario manufactured, or Ohio manufactured? We payed a little more for the Canadian manufactured one. It works both ways. But one thing that will not be considered is "made in China". Not in my garden.

Uruguay will potentially be another major exporter to countries like Canada.
