define successful? I've pulled a dry ounce per plant off (4) 68w CFLs (the 300w replacement) in a 4ft standing freezer. IMHO buy a hps, you'll be happier in the end.

you should be able to acheive 1/2 oz with 250 watt worth of cfls.you should check out the cfl grows on here and youtube.ive never grown with cfls, but ive seen pretty good results using cfls.

I used to use one 105w cfl per auto. The most I ever pulled with that set up was a tad over an oz. The worst about a half oz. When I switched to HPS and then LED the most I ever pulled off an auto was a bit over 80g.

the worst was about a half oz off one plant, best approx 80g off one plant. I've grown everything from Short Stuff and highly recommend all their strains except the Super Cali Haze and Blue Diesel (and Blue Himalayan Diesel). The Blue Diesels didn't really smoke that great and the Cali Haze was wildly unstable. Of the 5 fem seeds I ordered none made it through to harvest. That being said their MI-5, Auto-Assassin, and Onyx are some of the best autos I've ever grown. Great yielders and the smoke was on par with most photo period plants. I've also grown strains from Sweet Seeds which I would also recommend to anyone.

I've retired my CFL setup but it was 293 total CFL watts (125 + 4X42), but I could do either one or 2 non-auto plants and count on 2-3 oz per plant if everything went according to plan. Even when things didn't go according to plan, 45g/plant wasn't too much to ask for.

all of my super cali's died before harvest. Only got 2 of the five to germ. Both displayed poor growth and were prone to deficiencies. One of them was about half way through flowering and I could tell it wasn't going to make it so I chopped it up and put it in bubble bags. Made some ok hash. Go with anything else from Short Stuff the rest of their plants grew very easily for me and the results were fantastic (except the blue diesel strains, they grew well but the smoke was so so).

The best cfl only grow I ever had was with an auto assassin got about 50g. The 80g plant was achieved using an air cooled 400w hps and was a MI-5.

i used like 6 cfls for 2 plants and got like an oz and a half from each.. used 5000k for veg and 2700k for flower, and it was in a closet...oh and it was bagseed but it came out looking way better than the weed it came from.kept me high for hours.

most def, not as much potential as HID or LED but if you're ballin on a budget rock them out they'll work. They are only cost effective for smaller gardens (4 plants or less) anything more than that you should look into other options. Most people use them as side lighting to HID or LED set ups
