White Rhino-Low Budget Grow

I recently ordered and received 10 white rhino seeds from buydutchseeds.com. It was my first time ordering seeds offline and I have to say I am impressed. I am a struggling college student so money is tight. I do not want to put all my eggs in one basket so for now I am only germinating 3. Hopefully by the next go around I will have the right equipment to do a proper grow. But for now I have to make due with what I have.

My goal for this grow is to practice and get the basics down. I am only going to use the bare essentials so no unnecessary equipment. I want to practice cloning, low stress training, maybe fimming and topping, and test aeroponics vs soil.... and whatever else I decide to do. And hopefully I get some descent bud in the process.

All three seeds successfully sprouted after 3 days. I would like to thank bds.com for the hasty delivery (about a week)... now lets see if this is quality genetics.

Here are some pictures......

The supplies I have as of now are as follows.

White Rhino Seeds
Rock Wool
Fox farm Hydroponic fertilizer, Grow Big, for vegetative growth
Hydro-tons
and a 150 watt hps light

I also have a timer and an aerogarden, but not at the moment, I will use the aerogarden for the cuttings.

I don't have much of a set up yet but here are some pics from oct. 5, ill post some new ones tonight

pic1- cabinet in my kitchen where I am doing this.... stupid? I know lol

pic2- inside

pic3- inside my 3plants in a Tupperware container with hydro-tons in it, under the 150watt hps

I already almost fucked it up!!! The hps light was making the temps in the cabinet way too high, the water that the plants were in was causeing root rot...

One of the plants had no root system at all, and the tip was brown. Yesterday I cut the tiniest bit off the plant and dipped it in rooting hormone, I put her, (better be a female) back in the rock-wool and watered it.... I hope she makes it!!!

I bought some more supplies, pots, and soil... I decided to grow two in soil and one in dwc. I put the biggest plant and the smallest plant in soil (it's about 30% perlite and 70% ocean frost) and I chose the medium sized plant for the dwc experiment.

pics
1- Supplies I picked up, fox farm ocean frost, perlite, two pots, a net pot, and I tiny air pump (I will get a better one when I feel like I need to, yes I am a noob but don't preach to me about common sense things unless I am doing something horribly wrong lol.)
2- A popcorn tub I am going to use for the dwc through out the vegetative growth, I am planning to use a cooler for the flowering stage since the hps light will make the temps in the res rise.
3-the cabinet
4- Soil plant 1, best of the three
5- Soil plant 2, worst of the three
6- Dwc plant, doing just fine in my opinion

give me feedback

So I fucked up again.... i pretty much ignored them for two weeks, and i had to hide them cause i had an annual inspection.... but the smallest one that was in the soil died, the one that i had in the aeroponic set up got horrible nute burn, which i dont know how that happened because it was only in water, anyway two of them survived and i transplanted the aeroponic one into soil. The one that was originally in soil is doing well, a little small for 31 days, but very healthy fox farm soil is awesome i'll never use anything else lol..... so i decided to germinate 3 more seeds in my aerogarden, hopefully they do better.... but i swear this thread will get better from here on out!

Feel free to give me advice

Pic 1- Two plants

Pic 2- Healthier of the two

Pic 3- Nute burned plant... you cant really tell because of the hps light but the second set of leaves have yellow/brown spots on them :( but the new growth on the top seems like she'll be fine.

Pic 4- Aerogarden 3 new plants

here are some recent pics of my white rhino.

1-started low stress training on my shitty plant, this was a couple days ago
2-this is today, notice the other sprout, it's just a bag seed
3-using a paper clip to hold her down
4-my plants.... so a lot happened since the last post, i pretty much got caught smoking by my landlord, i got super paranoid and left the lights off for three days, notice the discoloration in the leaves. And my other three sprouts were stretched, and my aero garden was leaking the whole time, so i put them in soil, i'll have proper pots for them by the end of the week hopefully.
5- my big plant, the leaf damage was caused by me panicking and hading them

wow man, tuff plants haha. I hope they wont go hermie on you with all the stress they got. From what ive heard, soil is more forgiving than hydro and thats why i went with soil.
Good luck !

so idk if anyone is following this thread, and i dont really care, im just posting it....

pic1- i took clones two days ago from my big plant

pic2- here they are today, not looking so hot.... one might make it but i doubt it

pic3- plants today

pic4- 3 small white rhino, the one that is kinda slaking has some deformed leaves, bad genetics i think, i will not be cloning that one

pic5- bad plant and two bag seed plants, that smaller one sprouted in the same pot, i dug it out and transplanted it

pic6- more stress training on this bitch :) i may regret it later if she turns hermie, but its fun and interesting to see how they react

pic7- good pant, bud sites are starting to develop, smells awesome too, hope it doesn't stink up my apartment like my last grow did.

pic8- side view of the good plant, idk if you can see it but there is staggered growth on the top

The 3 newest from seeds look healthy, and just because the cuttings look droopy the day after being potted doesn't mean they won't make it.. awesome news on the female and goodluck!

thanks guys, i didn't know people were reading this, i think im going to start flowering all of them starting dec 1, they should be big enough, and that would be 3.5 weeks of veg. growth, what do you guys think?

Will they be flowering in the cabinet or the closet, and you'll be using the 150w HPS for howw many plants? 3.5 - 4 weeks sounds alright to me..

they will be in my closet, 150w hps for 5 white rhino, and 2 bag seed, so seven total..... i should probably get another light huh?

What sized pots will they be in.. and 150w total sounds kinda low to me. I don't see the light being bright/penetrating for that many plants, any ideas what you would do for extra lighting?

3 gallon pots i think, or maybe smaller, i don't want them getting too big like my last grow, and ill probably pick up another hps in the next couple of weeks, maybe a 400w depending on the cost, but at least another 150w

personally, hydroponics is taking some getting used to. Altho soil has a learning curve too. you gonna have a fan to cool that space?
