Which cools better, hood or tube?

Does a tube cool more completely or does the size of a hood keep it cooler? (both vented with good fan of course)

well if u mean you mean a tube within the hood, then ya... less surface area of flow= higher velocity = greater heat removal rate. a tube over the light almost hugs the bulb allowing for max heat removal, where as tempered glass across the hood would increase surface area, decrease velocity and heat removal rate... think thats what u mean. But i bet tempered glass sealing off the hood would work almost as good too

I have a sealed hood, the Easy Six reflector to be exact, and I wished I'd bought a CT with external reflector.

Punk, why do you say you wished you had gotten the CT? I mean they seem like the way to go. Smaller, lighter, less likely to bump when moving around in the grow room, possibily better cooling. I mean maybe the fixture gets hotter on the tube just because it's so close to the bulb no amount of blowing can stop the heat transfer, whereas with enough air flow a big hood doesn't get that hot at all. I'd just like to try a tube to see it's advantages.
