Where to stick it? Options other than rockwool for clones?

I'm a noob, so any thoughts or tips on my setup, or anything I say is mucho appreciated.

I'm just curious what all the options are, as for what to put clones in after you cut them? I know rockwool is the most popular, as well as soil, but what else? I assume my growing method is what will dictate what I choose to put my clones in?

I think I'm going DWC hyrdo(2 plants per 1 rubbermaid 57L/15gal, 24 x 16 x 12½), and either going to use neoprene collars and just have the roots hang, or use lava balls(better support?). I'd like to know how I'm going to get from fresh cut clone to vegging plant for either of those methods? I've heard using a rockwool cube and covering it in lava balls isn't the best way, as the rockwool cube holds lots of water and can cause problems later on?. What I'd like to do, once the clones have some roots, is to clean them off to bare roots, then either put them in laval balls or use the collars. I just don't know how I can root a clone in something, then remove that something so I can put the rooted clone in it's final home?

These are going to be moms used to make clones for an outdoor this summer. Do my growing methods sound like good choices for what I want to do?

So the most important answer I'm looking for is what should I put my clones in?

I clone in peat pellets and a homemade humidity tent under a couple of fluorescent bulbs. I have a 98% success rate within 7 to 10 days i have roots.Then the clones are placed in pots covered with hydroton clay pebbles.This would work if you took your cuttings and placed them into the rockwool cubes then into the humidity dome and waited for roots.You can use the neoprene collars and build yourself an aero bubble cloner.This is where the cuttings are suspended by neoprene collars and hung over bubbling water and the roots emerge.Then you would need to transplant them into pots with hydroton or rockwool cubes.You are going to need support when these girls start to put on the weight.

if you are running DWC for veg and flower im assuming you will have systems in both flower and veg rooms if they are both the same exact system why not just put use rapid rooters for cloning (much easier to clone in then rockwool) then when you have a good amount of roots out of the rapid rooters just put in hydro rock filled net cups surrounding the rapid rooter then cut a hole the size of the net cup mix your nutes in tote turn on your air pumps and veg then when ready for bloom your other system in flower will have the same holes just pull out of one system and put in the other thats pretty simple.

what about the simple old bubbler cloner? just a bubbler with lid and holes clones sticking straight in water, they root pretty fast can be transplanted into netpots when they root

Ther ia also the new STG (sure to grow) medium. I have been using it for a year now. It is very clean and perfect for what you want to do. It has the upsides of rock wool without retaining all the water. Plenty of good videos on their website. My hydro store is not carrying it yet so I order mine direct from STG.

if your using hydro then start in small rw cubes. then transplant them into rw pots

x2. Was a big rockwool fan but made the switch have not looked back lol

perlite and vermiculite, then just pull the plant out when it has roots and place into pot, gently of course you can rinse the remnants of perlite and vermiculite off if you choose, or leave them on.

I bought a DIY aerocloner off ebay for $100. I have used it 3 times so far, and I have over 95% success rate. Success lies in the clone prep, because I use straight tap water in the machine with no additives. Gotta make sure you skim just a cunthair's worth of material off the bottom 2" of each clone....like peeling a carrot. This accomplishes the exact same thing that IBA does, which is soften the outer wall of the plant so roots (that grow from the cambium layer) can penetrate the tough outer tissue. Make sure you dont slice off the vascular cambium though, because no roots will grow!!

I'm running a similar setup with 10gal DWC tubs and a bubble cloner.
