I forgot I forgot about Baker Creek heirloom seeds. I made a small order through them with good results. My old lady has ordered from Mi Gardner and I think it was an overall pleasant experience.
Awesome! I know some folks that make their living off homesteading and selling veggies/fruits at farmers markets. They swear by Baker Creek, you just have to time the order as they do sell out of a lot of goodies. Mi Gardener also seems active with youtube videos and they price things very cheap. I just froze a lot of seeds, info tells me seeds when frozen properly can last 20-30 years with good germination.
Nice. Ya I've just started letting a few plants go to seed this year and saving seeds for the veggies and flowers I want to bring back. Good point about cross pollination though.One thing I do is leave some vegetables on the plants/vines until the end of the season and the plants start dying so I can harvest my own seeds. Only issue with that is you may not get the same thing you grew due to cross pollination. Squashes can really surprise you with odd looking fruit that you've never seen.
I should have the zucchini, cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes taken care of for next year. The red pepper is a green that I left on the plant to make sure the seeds were done. The tomato I'll squeeze the seeds out and ferment for a few days before rinsing and drying. I was going to pull the beans down but there are a bunch too big to eat that I'll use for seeds as well. Even though I save seeds I'll still end up buying stuff and planting more than I have room for.
