not all strains turn red though.. thats why i like the trichs.. trichs dont lie

Personally, I prefer to use the whole 'when it looks done, it's done' thing along with a good ol magnifier to confirm. Swollen calyxes, buds coming to a nice point and tend to have an almost sandy look to them.

Never heard the peck and listen, but I'm a newbie, many suggestions I've heard more times than not, I would go from those.i no its a couple weeks early but when is the best time to harvest i have read to peck on the main stock and hear a hollow sound and look at the tricombs to be 1 third amber but the top flowers are amber but not the bottom ones

Where is the guy that says pick some bud off your plant and smoke it?
Go by flowering times suggested from sign of first white pistils(not 12/12 switch) and get a x30-100 scope for 10-15 bucks and look for 5-10% clear, 5-10% amber and the rest cloudy for trichomes. Also most of the time more then half the hairs should be receding back toward or into bud. Hair color means little to nothing.

Look at the buds and check if they are ready if hair color means little to nothing .......you don't really need a scope to tell if marijuana is ready for harvest imo :/
thanx for the info guys but what happend is we had a bad storm go thru in late june lost power while i was veging 2 days later power came on and full of hairs so i switced to 12/12 and hps but they were on their 6th week of veg a little early for flowering.I started with serious ak47 female seeds i do have a 60+ scope the pistils are all cloudy no amber yet i just want to get all i can out of them and should i start to flush them now or wait

6 weeks is not too early, I go longer but 6 isn't bad.
The power outage won't hurt being many people give their girls 36-48 hours of darkness in between veg and flower to kick start them, whether that actually works or not I don't know, but I also do it.
AK47 is a great strain. Cloudy is good. AK47 does amber up. I think we went well over 60 days flowering. Begin to flush after first signs of amber or soon after.
