Whats up with Fox Farms Ocean Forest Potting Soil?

Hey guys thanks for having me. Have a question for you guys. This is my first grow and I will be using FFOF potting mix. Do you need to add anything to it or is it good to go. Please help. Thanks. Keep It Green And Free.

It's good for about three weeks then you need nutes. I use the Fox Farms Trio,Grow Big, Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom.

Be careful with adding anything to this mix, there have been numerous overfeeding threads as a result. Their recommended feeding schedule is also too much, that's why they sell a flushing agent. If you must use it, I recommend about half strength or even a little less. You can always add, but once a medium becomes too hot it's a PIA to correct..
Happy Growing!

yes just listen to bullwingle its good for 3weeks to 1.5 months depending......after that you should be using the complete foxfarm line up which is pretty small and price affordable really.......Grow big, big bloom and tiger bloom.....they also have a 3 additives which are "sesame" "beastie bloom" and "chu ching" id get the whole line up sense its so price friendly that is...... just remember to go easy on the nutes id start with half the recommended amount and go up from there

I too am using FFOF and its at the 9 week veg stage and these Purple Kushes are still short. This morning I went to the hydro shop and got one bottle of Tiger Bloom for $22. I saw the other stuff there that Footclan mentioned but this was before i read this blog. Now is the tiger bloom good enough or will i eventually need the others as the plants will/might be more demanding for nutrients at certain stages in flowering?

I've been using the full line of FF products. I quit using "Light Warrior" cause I didn't feel I needed it. My young plants do well in OF with no feedings. I start feeding my veg plants around three weeks in. Then after four I put them into flower with the whole line of nutes. I've found it works very well but there are some strains that it is too much for. If the plants seem to stress from it, cut it in half. Otherwise, I grow top shelf shit from FF plan.

I will definitely be starting with Fox Farms Ocean Forest PS. Seems like a no-brainer with how well-made it is.

Add perlite to the mix

Ocean Forest will burn your plants if fed while the soil still has nutes.

Happy Frog is best imo

it personally was recommended to me by a local grower to mix the fox farm ocean with the roots organic soil at about 50/50 cause the roots organic has a lot of perlite and other nutrients where the fox farm has a little perlite with a shit ton of nutes

don't use that stuff its good a decent medium but dirt sucks imho use coco blocks its like 13 a block and you get 10x more medium from it then even 1 bag of ffof or light warrior plus its lighter and neutral roots grow fast theres no cons to it all pros since i switched over i don't even use soil (except mothers) i think dirt is just a waste of time

Ok, whats the difference between each of the FFOF Trio? I only got the tiger bloom, do and will i soon want the others? What does each of them do? I did'nt ask the hydro shop because i smoked to much unmature colas/ tops right before going there. There are youtube videos with people saying " oh yes, this is what im using", but they did'nt include the benifits in detail about why they used it and difference in result as of not using it.

they're for the different phases of the plants life you have two different things confused ffof is fox farm ocean forest soil your talking about the nutrient trio...

grow big tiger bloom and big bloom iv used many times very good line. you have to look at the numbers n-p-k high n is ideal for veg p is idea for transition right before flower then k is for flower when im using the trio halfway thru flower i'll stop using the trio and start the bloom trio cha ching open sesame and beasti blooms also on the fox farm line for mid to final weeks of flower

I use FFOF, 20-25% perlite, and 1 tbs per gallon of dirt of half fine/half granular dolomite lime.
I also use the FF trio at half strength

i did a test with foxfarms ocean forest and roots organic greensfield. roots organic won hands down. the clones were identical (same age, mother)and the results were amazing. ff showed defiency in 2.5 weeks, specially in magnesium (rust spots on leafs) since i watered with reverse osmosis without any cal-mag. the ff plants began to get purple stems in 3 weeks with stretching. the rootsorganic showed no signs of defiency for 4 weeks and the plants looked so much healthier. the roots plants had more branching and tighter interdnode spacing. depending on how long you want to veg(if its at least 4 weeks), i recommend rootsorganic greensfield. after my test, i will never use foxfarm ocean forest again. the only problem with roots that i have had is fungis gnats.i usually always get them when i use roots soils but gnats are easy to control and are not life threatening unless at seedling or young clone stage since the larvae feed off of new root growth. imo, the roots was so much better then the fox for my indica strain. roots might be too hot for a sativa strain but have yet to test it on one.sativas are known for taking less nutrients then indicas and alot of times will result in the leafs getting a claw like appearance from overfeeding.anyways, i hope this info helps

like i said if you do use fox farm ocean mix it about half and half with roots organic cause roots soil has soooooo much perlite and the combination seems to work great and it was even advised to me to do that by a local grower from a collective in my area who said thats hows he grows his own personal smoke

FFOF is too acidic, I mix in lime. I'm working with Happy Frog now though and a lot happier so far.

Quick question though i am using FFOF right now and i was thinking about buying botanicare nutes do you think that would be an unwise investment i just kind of like the botanicare line or do you guys think it would be conflicting using different products just figured i would ask if you guys had any experience with this combooooo

@leetbomb420
it doesnt really matter go with what you like in my experiences iv never had any... any issues with foxfarm its a little less concentrated then other lines so you can be generous with feeding and not get burn

true story i misread the bottle and thought it said tbl so i fed 2 tbl instead of 2 tsp no burn whatsoever i did use plain water the next time but.

its a good line for beginners
