looking to make some clones soon and i have been using the Sunshine Mix #4. its pretty good stuff. so far so good. im curious. i heard somewhere that it is good to start your clones out in soil. as appose to coco. but rockwool cubes, jiffy pucks, and other hydro mediums are for easy hydro use, correct? ive heard of using rockwool cubes in soil, but that seems a little uncommon to me. i have a bag of Roots Organic Soil. should i be using that as appose to the SM#4? clones only need to be in their medium for a few weeks, correct? i have heard of SOG methods were its 2 weeks of veg, then straight to flower. or can i use the SM#4 for the clones as well? shouldn't i be using the same mediums for transplanting? if i start my clones out in 12oz plastic cups how long should i leave them in the cups for? should i switch (transplant) them after they root into their bigger 3gal containers? thanks in advance for the help!!

Clones need water only (air of course) but no nutes. You could clone with dish sponges and bread ties if you tried hard enough. Any ph-neutral medium works great for soil... Light warrior, Root Riot, coco coir, etc. Reason i don't like rockwool is ph drift.

If I'm not mistaken, SM has nutes in it?

yes it does. and thats why i was advised to NOT use it for the clones. thats why i picked up the Roots Organics. it has earthworm castings, guano shit like that, but i dont think it has nutes in it. im trying to find something that wont kill them, or burn them.

I'm with Xcon on this one. Clones only really need a neutral ph in the medium. You can otherwise use anything within reason to root your clones. The more important factor is the conditions in which the clones are living while trying to root. I.E., keep em warm and moist. .

I use rockwool without problems, i soak it in rainwater to keep the pH low enough for clones and adding a little mycorrhyzal mix in to the water can help. Also spraying the clones with a small amount of superthrive can make rooting a little faster. don't use any heavy duty liquid nutrient that can burn till veg, the plant doesn't need any growth since they're putting all their energy towards root mass.
