What would you do in a power outage to hide smell?

I'm terrified of the idea of losing power and my carbon filters going down. I'd be boned for sure. What would be a safe emergency preventative for smell?

Ona gel? My room is a couple rooms back into my apartment.

I thought of that, but I wouldnt even know what I would be looking for. I am only running a small grow, 2 600 watt dimmable lumatek digital ballasts and a 120 watt 6" inline fan.

Well, how long of an outage are you worried about and need to be prepared for? Just do the math and search for an appropriate backup for the fan only. Also, you could get a fan regulator for this situation to use less wattage.

I have it hooked up to a speed controller. I'll look into a battery backup. I think I'd rest more easy then.

I just live in a heavy winter climate, so if we did lose power, I'd want to be ready.

Anybody with experience using ona gel? I'd probably put it in the room outside of the grow room.

I would look into a UPS, unintruptable power supply, but make sure to look at how long they last at what wattage. APS is a top company in these, i see a lot of them go through a local auction company, but having a battery you never know what condition it is in until you can test it.

If you lose power, the bigger concern is getting hermaphrodites. When the lights are off, you don't really need ventilation, as the plants don't make stink in the dark. Plants seem stinkiest shortly after lights on.

This is actually one of the VERY few good questions that has been asked recently.

IDK the answer!:roll::mrgreen::mrgreen:

The only strain I run is pretty much zero smell. The only thing that the wife will put up with .... no smell.kiss-ass

Have 0 experience with ona gel.

The battery backup sounds good, but could be $$$$$ for your fan.

Perhaps look into something that will run off 12v? RV's have exhaust fans (My wife just turned me on to "Breaking Bad", LOL, I don't watch TV much) and yes, it would be a separate deal, but I bet it would be cheaper to set up than backup for the 120v fan.

Just thinking.

Actually really like Wetdogs thinking here, a 12v battery, an inverter and a trickle charger would probably be cheaper than a good ups, and would run that fan for days!

How are you going to move the scented air over the gel without power?

I think this is less of an issue than you might think.

If you're not disturbing the plants, and opening and shutting the doors, and you're not exhausting scented air out of the grow area, then why would the smell come out?

If your power goes down, just seal up your ventilation holes, don't disturb anything, and you should be fine with a relatively short power outage of a day or less.

Make sure that you always have a pet skunk handy and if have a power failure just scare the hell out of your skunk with a mechanical bear puppet..that should hide the smell!:-P

How about a hydrogen fuel cell generator if you have the bucks and the exhaust from a conventional generator would not work..have to be a serious grower and have at least as much money as someone in the 1%

really dude? no offense but you are way off here, wort case if he lost power for TOO long the plants would go into flowering (assuming he is in veg stage when this happens)

and the plants smell the same day and night, they just plain stink. reason they seem more potent after lights go out is probally due to having your fan setup on same timer as lights. just a thought.

providiny your cab is airtight, a couple of 12v CPU fans would work nicely hooked up to a good car battery, wich is also a 12v battery, just have to rig something to replace the inline fan and put in a couple CPU fans real quick, im sure you could think of something to be able to quick change them in a emergency, they wont stink you out that fast but if its really a issue have some air freshner handy for the time it takes you to rig the new fans.

if you are gone part of the day and woried about outtage when your not home, get the backup thing the OP was talking about that way if you lose power it will auto kick on and last till you get home and can figure out a more permanent fix depending on how long you think you will be out of power.

i guess it all depends on your situation, are you @ home growing under mom and dads nose? college campus (i have seen it on here)

apartment and just dont want neighbors smelling?

if you can run a generator that would be best bet, wouldnt have to change a thing. if not then you gotta look at more silent backups (battery)
