What Type of Wood to Use?

I plan to go to Home depot and buy the wood pieces custom cut for a 7ft high, 6 ft ong, and 2.5 feet deep box. Now my questions are:

1)What wood should I get?
-Has to be mold resistant. If not what can i apply to it to make it such?
-Decently sturdy.
2) What can I get to apply to the wood to stop mold from accumulating?
3) What should I put in the corners to help keep it water tight? In case of minor leaks or spillage?

You need pressure treated lumber or cedar to be mold resistant. You can also just use pine and make sure the box is well sealed with some panda film. I would line at least the bottom of the box with panda film for any spills.

If you are building a box why not use plywood ?

Look up the prices on your local home improvement center's website. Regular pine is usually roughly about half the cost of pressure treated lumber. I'm not sure how you would make a sliding door on such a small box. I'm an amateur carpenter at best, I can do framing and build some stuff but thats about it.

given you haven't done any woodwork before i think you ought to consider buying a used piece of furniture that can be made into a stealth box. armoires work really well.

it'll be a lot easier to make and you'll end up with something that hides your grow better

I would like to buy something pre-built, but eh I dunno. I would like to build it or at least design the inside lol.

you can get one at used furniture stores or flea markets - if you search on this site for stealth grow boxes you'll find lots of examples of people using these things. they are easier to modify to your needs than to build a box by scratch if you don't have woodworking experience.

treated pine is actually cheaper than rough pine ... 2x4,s are about 2.00 a peice..

What he said, even look at new garage shelving at a home improvement store. It will be cheaper in the long run since you'll need tools that you probably don't have since you haven't worked with wood before.

On the other hand if you are doing it for experience, then I say go for it. It would be great experience !!!!!

Look around and do web searches and see what others have done and copy it.

Thanks for clarifying that man! Heh! Me so bakey! Anywho thanks again for the suggestion man. I got two roads I can walk down right now. Either grab a friend who knows how to work with wood and ask him to build/drill for me, or to get one of those armories...^.^

Dude, I've been so stoned that I would be walking down the streets two miles one way and then I'd start going to another place until about thirty minutes later I remembered I had to go to the other place first. Some funny shit man.

Also I've been looking for grow operations where people built their own boxes and so far haven't been able to find anything to match what I'm looking for.

Also check out the Grow Tents, might be just what you are looking for.

Thats the thing. Grow tents are obvious. A whole lot more expensive to. Also the dimensions, I don't know if you can order them for specific dimensions.

2x3's are ok to use, but 2x4's are a little stronger if it's needed. frames can be a little wobley at first, but that can be normal, and it gets much much stronger once there is plywood mounted on it. you can use bathroom calk to seal any cracks and make it air tight. I'd just use normal cheap pine wood. pressure treated isn't needed because grow rooms "should" be kept clean and dry anyway.

so what exactly are you looking for? what do you have in mind?

I do some stupid things when stoned, but I've done worse things sober. one time I was gonna go outside and walk across the street to grab something from a garage. I stop half way there at my car and get something else, then turn around to go back to the house. I stop in the middle of the yard and think to myself.. what am I doing, what was it I came out here for? then I think.. I don't remember even coming outside. what was I doing inside? um....... a few seconds later.. ooh yeah, and continue across the street. lol

Dude! I'll leave the house to go to my car to, get there, wonder why I'm here, see something, grab it, go back inside, play video games, then go shit, I had to get that, do it again, forget, repeat then finally get it!
