what ive got... i need advice on the rest!

okay... check it out... as of now i have a 33" D x 62" W x 7' T closet that i have been growing 2 plants in... (i started it to proove that i could grow plants in the winter) and now im wanting to turn it into a full grow room. it had carpet in it but i ripped it out and laid lenoleum on the floor..... for my lighting i have 4 40w flourescent tubes and a red heat lamp facing away from plants for heat... i have no ventalation... and i have 2 38" tall plants and have just switched to a 12/12 light cycle(the only reason i had them on a 18/6 cycle is for heating purposes)

my room stays a constant 80 degrees when lights are on

i have no clue as to what i am really doing.. but i have been reading up on it.

will someone please help me out on my situation. i need to know what to do bout ventalation, lighting, and climate control. "as far as this closet is in the back of my junk room (no heat in winter) i do not have a big budget to spend on this but if it helps i do have 2 more dual bulb 40w flourescent fixtures that i can put in the room and bout 6 computer fans laying around

BTW...(please talk common english) so i can understand what you are saying.

(keep in mind the room that this closet is in has NO heat what so ever... so i need some kind of heat source)

thanks!

If it twer me, I would seperate the closet into two areas, one for veg and one for flowering. You can get light proof fabric at the fabric store pretty cheap and its worked well for me. Just make sure that zero light transfers or you'll piss off the plants in flowering. I would also keep the floros and maybe supplement with a few cfl's in the veg room and hook it up with an hps in the flowering room (the cheap stuff thread has a few for around $100 I thinks. shits going to get hot so you'll need to hook up an exhaust fan. I think the rule of thumb is that the fan should replace all the air in the room every three minutes. If your worried about smell you can hook up a carbon filter to the exhaust. there's a good how to on how to make one for under $20 around here somewhere. cfl's will also work and you won't have to worry so much about exhausting, but they are not as effective.

In the veg area you need to be more worried about getting fresh air to the plants than removing hot air so as long as your closet isn't completely air tight, an oscillating fan would be helpful, oh and your going to want one in the flowering room. After that you can add toys and do-hickies as you learn more.

For heating you can pick up two box heaters with thermostats. Just use a good thermometer to make sure the heaters temp reading are accurate (or it'll let you know how far off it is).

Also sounds like you may run into height issues with your current plants. Indicas will double in size and sativas will triple in size during flowering. There are a few techniques to deal with this, but I'm not too knowledgeable on those.

Yes. Seperate your closet into a veg area and a flowering area. The 40w bulbs should provide you with all the heat you need. You may want to put a small fan in there to move the air around. Id try a solar powered fan so you dont have to run any more cords into your area. They dont offer much wind, but they will run for as long as the lights are on and will move the air around.

If you run into heat issues with the lights off, buy a stupid little 25 watt incandescent black light bulb. They provide barely any light, none of it is useable to plants, and it produdes a lot of heat. Put this under your flowering plants so the heat rises.

If you are in a situation where odor is not a problem, then forget about venting. Just open and close the closet door a few times to circulate the air.

Keep up the good work.

... i really appreciate the advice... but james i asked you to speak english lol... what are cfl's and hps?... btw... my space is only 5 ft and my lights are 4 ft long... so i dont know how the separating is going to go... i do on the other hand have another small closet like structure (bout 6 ft tall 16" deep and bout 3ft wide i can turn into the veg room... maybe it will work... like you said the plants will grow in flowering. im in the process of taking the top shelf out of the closet so it will give me about 1 more ft of spaceto work with i just got to figure out how to remount my lights so i can raise and lower them as needed... any ideas?

build a shelf in the middle. turn the bottom half to veg. the top half flower. then run an exast to the adic.

Cfl is a compact florescent light, they are the flouresent bulbs that are designed to replace all the regular light bulbs in your house. Hps is a high pressure sodium light. I might recommend reading threw as much as the faq you can, kinda dry but really good place to get some of the basic info down. And I was so focused on how tall it was I completely missed how wide it was, my bad. any how separating top and bottom might be a good idea on your next grow if you want to grow shorter plants in the future. as it is now i might recommend setting it up after these plants are done. if you do that all you need to do is put some of those hook screw thingies in the ceiling, or if that doesn't work for your situation you could crab a shower rod, but I would throw a few screw in the wall because lights falling on plants sucks. At that point you can use anything you want to for hanging them, I use small rope cause I'm cheap but you can also use chain or they sell yo-yo's at most hydro stores that make it pretty easy. And if your hell bent on setting up a grow room to get more plants started now I'm sure we could figure something out.

lol.... well peeps i really appreciate the advice... and your right.. from reading i think i let them get too tall for this little room (i had them on a longer on time than off) "something like 18/6" then i really started reading bout it and put them on a 14/ 10 then a 12/12 and i have no clue as to if there male or female but im hoping for some beautiful ladies... but from what im reading they double in size during flowering but... its all good i will be posting as i learn... and as soon as i get time and figure out how ill be posting pics.. btw i have one more question... how many times will my plants flower and bud before dieing?

IMHO, I would take some cuttings for clones now, you should be alright if you just switched to 12/12 and stick them in another room or just buy some seeds. I haven't heard of too many people getting good results from re-vegging.

NOW YOUR TALKING OVER MY HEAD... I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO CUT CLONES... IM COMPLETELY NEWS TO THIS... THAT IS Y I JOINED THIS FORUM...oh shit my bad for the caps... im not retyping that tho... lol

okay ladies and gentelmen... in my previous thread i stated that i was new to this grow stuff and had no clue as to how to set my grow room up.... alright... im growing for myself and i only have 2 plants... (just growing from a bag to get the feel of it) but i have upgraded my room a bit...

as previously stated i had 2 4 ft 40w flourescent shop fixtures (2 40w bulbs in each) well i have added another 4 ft fixture "is this too much?" my room is not completely air tight so i added a solar powered fan to move the air around... (as i was told) but i am still having a pproblem with the temp in my room droping in the lower 50's in my room (during the 12 off period) any ideas? ... i am skeptic about putting a heater in a closet...

Cloning is intimidating at first, but if you spend some time reading up on it its really easy and it will save you from wasting time vegging boys. I don't really think there is any such thing as too much light they will soak up every bit you give them. and if your worried about a heater the black light idea sounds pretty good. Do your plants look wilty when the light comes on? I think that some plants can take colder temps better than others but I would assume it still slows growth. Hope everything works out for you.

Alright, if you have more fixtures, than use them!!! But don't put them on top instead along the sides, i.e. the back of the closet, use some Kitchen and Bath bulbs(3000k). This way your lower branches will get some love too. As far as heating goes, just get a little mini space heater from any store (about $15), but make sure it has a dial for setting your temp. It will take a little to get the temp right, plus if during the lights on your temp is good, than put your little heater on a timer (about$6- $15) so it only runs when the lights aren't on. You won't need much, just keep it above or around the mid 60's, seeing as how in nature you'd be around there anyway. If the closet isn't sealed that well than just having the fan should move enough air to help. Hope that helps, and Good Luck!
