^^^^Fox Farms Light Warrior is best to start your plants; it's lighter on the nutes for seedlings. When you transplant them, put them into FF Ocean Forest or Happy Frog. It's all pure Humboldt county soil; the best in the world for growing herb.
The bottled water metaphor is good but I like the Advanced Nutrients metaphor better, LOL. Funny how when you have $500 worth of goodies to feed your 6 plants, it's the best. But I don't think you can fairly compare pure compost to soil; it's two different things. The FF line has compost in it for sure but it's the unique makeup of the soil that makes it special. If you've never seen the groves and orchards of the San Joaquin Valley, you wouldn't understand. You could probably Google "worlds richest soil" and the SJV soil would come up. I've seen (photos) trees that yielded over 10 lbs of the highest grade marijuana on earth come from those soils. The best in the world huh? I was just reading a blog about the Ellerslie International Flower Show 2009 in NZ. Guess what kind of soil the winner used? Compost made from grass clippings, fruits, and leaves. Grass's nitrogen content is usually around 5%-9%. I guess soil is like bottled water. If its expensive & packaged well, it just has to be the best.
Get a map. Humbolt is at the top of the valley. I realize there is an elevation difference but the soil is the same. The valley stops at Redding but Humboldt is just a very few miles to the northwest.Humboldt and San joaquin are not evening close to each other. Now which soil is it?
To answer the question, Theres plenty of opinions out there, once you do find the right stuff for you, stick with it. I recommend FFOF like many others. Has great results, and it saves time from making composts, and headache if you dont know how. What is the best type of soil to purchase for growing? Brand ect...Thanks for you help! I have them started in Jiffy-Mix for seed starting and need to transplant soon.
Okay your map must be very different San Joaquin Valley is no where near Humboldt. And the Valley does not go past Sacramento. Actually it is about five or six different counties separating the two. I hope you grow better than you read a map. Thanks for the advice good luckGet a map. Humbolt is at the top of the valley. I realize there is an elevation difference but the soil is the same.
