Hey y'all I got a 4x2x5 tent with a 400w hps / mh it came with a 100cfm 4" fan and scrubber but unless I leave unzipped stays pretty warm in there ... Obviously 100cfm is no where near enough. I'm thinking of a 6" can fan or the can da max I believe they are both around 320-350cfm... What y'all like and what have u got that isn't so great or to loud etc.... Thanks happy smokingbongsmilie

you have a 40 cubic ft tent , you have a 100 cfm fan CFM definition = cubic ft per min. SO your fan is almost 3 x bigger then what you need ,So add all the goodies you got in the package deal and Yes the fan is sized correctly, And you think its to small , But then you say if you leave the tent open the temp drops , So there is your answer. think of your tent as a small sandwitch size plastic bag if put your moulth over the opening and suck in what happens to the air , And what happens to the bag, ok Now put a hole in the bag about the size of a dime , what happens, Ok now cut the whole bottom out of the bag, So you have the dime situation goin on SO we need to figure out what size fresh air intake you need to have that fan exchage the rate of air that it is rated for 100 cfm , you can go with a 6 inch round supply fresh air ,but you are boarder line with 6 inch I would use 8 iches of round for intake ................

ok so i need more intake ? i have all 3 flaps at bottom opening and a 10" oscillating fan and a tower fan. Should i get a fan for intake...take out one of the fans and have the one for outtake or ?

Don't do anything drastic like buying anything just yet.

I take it you have your fan extracting air out of the tent?

If so where does this air end up? Is it just dumped into the room where the tent is located?

Yes?
This could be your issue. Redirect your exhaust to blow out of the room.
By dumping hot air into the room with the tent the ambient air temp increases and then gets redrawn back into your tent to get warmer and the recycled again.

Yeah that's the prob I can't really put it nowhere else :-/ I might try to re arrange close to window or something :-/ n when I got ac going its alright I imAgine if I lower temp on ac to under 74 it would help it overall but no heat problems yet and growth is great so well c what small things I can tweak thanks bro !

No worries.

Basic grow room setup states that its best to direct hot air as far away from the grow as possible.

I use a 6" 320CFM fan with filter and temp sensored fan speed controller. This way it automates my fan as required to keep it cool. But I draw cold air in from outside and exhaust up into my loft/attic. I have added attic ventilation to cope with the extra heat/humidity and my attic stays cool all year round.

yes you need Fresh air, intake air from another source, outside of the room it self .out side air would be best, you can not just keep recycling the air, every time it passes through your grow area it will pick up heat ,hense temps keep rising ,leave room door open if can,and exhaust air outside

Ok I'll try to figure something out

How about opening bedroom window and using my 20" fan blowing out window ..?? Think that will do anything

Valuline by C.A.P. 8" burned out on me in a year and was loud from day one. Hurricane was better built but even louder.

I use Hydrofarm 8" 740cfm fans now. Super quiet. I liked the first one for cooling my lights so much I bought another for my scrubber.

I only hear good things about Vortex and CAN fans. If the Hydrofarms don't hold up, I'll be trying those.

Yes use that window with your fan as a exhaust , just need now to make sure you are bringing in fresh air in to the room ,So you get new air exchange in the room . if you feel the fan is moving the air to quick you can use the bathroom door itself as a dampner , close door 1/2 3/4 or leave wide open ,A good cheep way to find this out is to go buy a helium ballon from a store let it sit for a day when it just starts to float around with out hitting your celling, put it at the intake ( fresh air supply)side of the room and time how long it takes to reach the fan in the bathroom, this will give you a good idea of your air exchange in the room .(how long it takes to get 100% air exchange ).

You can neck down over a distance. If you are in proximity to your dryer out vent a simpleY is a good as any non evasive, avenue to expell hot stale used air. Plant a little basil below the outdoor vent and you have eliminated the need for fancy expensive carbon filter solutions. I don't know if these solutions fit your needs, but mabey someone else reading this will. anyway hope It helps. I made a pretty In-depth journal entry just a couple of days ago, about my $425 dollar garage grow room and how to put it together using pro equipment. Also some good pics might check that out as well.
My hurricane is pretty damn quiet? guess some are loud some aren't.Peace

vortex inlines are the best, If you have a problem with it being too loud get a fan speed controller and dial it down a few pegs. You will barely hear it.

Vortex style fans in genral are not loud the decibels for all fans are listed if not call the fan company and ask what the Db of that model is, find the onw with the lowest db number and you found the one you want , But I warn you its all how its ducted ,air moves = sound moves, so someones choice might not be anothers because the way its ducted .........duct it rite and sound will be a min db level of the fan. here is a picture how to install a 500 CFM fan with carbon filter the correct way cant even here it run and its a squirel cage type fan witch is louder in general then a vortex style fan.012.jpg
