What do you do if, after first putting dried buds in a jar, the initial rh is 57%?

I'm guessing you keep that thing sealed up and don't touch it for as long as you can. Yes?

When you dry your weed you should aim for a 6 day + drying period. You want to slowly draw out the moisture in the buds while keeping the conditions level.
After harvesting & drying (for around 6 days or more if possible) your bud should hover around 60% RH - 65% RH.

That's when you start putting the buds in jars and burping those jars for a longer period.

If I explained all the details I'd be repeating what has already been written in this section so I'd advice you to read the stickies on drying & curing in this section.


But just to make it clear:

You do not seal up freshly dried bud in jars and don't touch it.
You have misunderstood the curing process.

what you do it open the jar tomorrow, and see how it feels then. if it feels moist, leave the jar open for a bit. If it feels super dry, close it up sooner.

Well, there's a hygrometer in there, so I can tell exactly how moist it is inside the jar. But throughout the day yesterday, the rh looked pretty stable right at 57%. So, I don't anticipate that it will be moving anywhere.

And, kOijn, I don't think I "misunderstood" the curing process. The bud just dried out a bit quicker than I expected, and I'm now trying to adjust.

I need a hygrometer!

Do the salt test with your hygrometer to see if it's accurate. They can be all over the map in terms of readouts. Your buds may have a higher rh than you think.

I'm confident it's an accurate reading. I have a few hygrometers, and they are all in sync.

In other news, the rh went up 1 percentage point overnight, now showing 58%. Not sure what to make of this.

Buds may sweat more with temp increases. I'd suggest still burping the jars but maybe for shorter periods than normal. This way we don't see a thread titled "Fuck my buds moldy!"

the reason your humidity went up is because there is moisture bound up in the inner cells of the bud, which is working its way to the outer cells and from there into the air in the jar. when you dry the outer cells lose their moisture first, being closest to the air. when you cure, you are allowing the bud to redistribute the moisture in the middle of the buds to remoisten the outer cells of the bud and lose more moisture to the air in the jar, until it reaches an equilibrium where the entire bud has the same amount of moisture through and through at around 55% rh. as a poster above said, go read the stickies on drying and curing for more info.

If it is rising that means the nugs are prob still too wet, even @57-58% rh. I would still burp, just don't leave the tops off very long. Also I recommend grabbing some 62% humidipaks, makes life way easier.

Hang on, 57-58% is too high? Or, was that to mean that if it is rising, after starting out at 57%, it will likely continue to rise to the point where it actually is too high? I don't know. Either way, I'll check out the humidipak thing.
