What are the round nodules?

I was doing some weed pulling in my garden a few weeks ago and pulled out this bunch of roots. Was wondering if someone can tell me what the round nodules are on the roots?

I believe those are called ground"pearls" it is a type of scale insect.

It's normal for certain classes of plants. They are part of the system for converting nitrogen into a form usable by the plant.
