what are "identity politics" and why do they make you so angry?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"Identity politics, also called identitarian politics, refers to political positions based on the interests and perspectives of social groups with which people identify. Identity politics includes the ways in which people's politics may be shaped by aspects of their identity through loosely correlated social organizations. Examples include social organizations based on age, social class or caste, culture, dialect, disability, education, ethnicity, language, nationality, sex, gender identity, generation, occupation, profession, race, religion, sexual orientation, settlement, urban and rural habitation, and veteran status. Not all members of any given group are involved in identity politics."

These issues in and of themselves don't make me angry, on the contrary, I believe many of these issues are important to discuss. What irritates me is when they take precedent over economic issues. When campaigns are run entirely on identity politics devoid of all actual policy substance as a scapegoat because they have no actual populist policy positions that people would support.

Solving the underlying campaign finance reform issues and economic problems would do much more towards closing racial and gender pay gaps than anything else. So that's what I believe and that's what I support. I support closing those gaps as much as possible to ensure equal opportunity for all.

I also take issue with the idea that if you don't appeal to identity politics, you're somehow sexist or racist or whatever. Like I said before, these issues are important and should be addressed, but they're not what is most important. Labeling allies as such severely damages the actual potential for real social justice.

so when my hispanic neighbor worries about his family getting deported rather than whatever "economic issue" you happen to be blathering about at the time, you get irritated?

when my gay friend worries about their marriage getting annulled rather than whatever "economic issue" you happen to be blathering about at the time, you get irritated?

when my trans friend worrie about getting the shit beaten out of them for using the bathroom rather than whatever "economic issue" you happen to be blathering about at the time, you get irritated?

when my female friends worry about getting their personal autonomy taken away them by a panel of exclusively old white males rather than whatever "economic issue" you happen to be blathering about at the time, you get irritated?

when i worry about jefferson beauregard sessions III coordinating the feds to work with local police to track my electric bill rather than whatever "economic issue" you happen to be blathering about at the time, you get irritated?

furthermore, how is getting your marriage annulled or your family deported or your personal autonomy stripped away or getting the shit beaten out of you not an economic issue? that effects these people way more than rather than whatever "economic issue" you happen to be blathering about at the time.

i guess it's not worth worrying about when it won't effect you because you are a white male. in fact, you even take it one step further and actively lash out at these people just for making these issues their main, overarching concern.

it's childish and fucking stupid. you suck. go vote for trump.

none of these issues has any effect on me. we all act in our own best self interest .I do not get irritated about people promoting their own issues but don't expect people to ignore those issues that effect them and get behind a cause that don't effect them

How did you miss the part where I agreed that "I believe many of these issues are important to discuss" after you quoted it?

They are economic issues that all stem from poor people, gay people, minorities and women being shafted when it comes to their wages, benefits, healthcare, and education. Are you picking it up yet? Everything you care about stems from everything I care about. You're putting a bandaid on an open wound while I'm performing surgery to close it. That's the difference between our approaches.

"It won't affect you"?

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, son. What I espouse does more good for poor, LGBTQ and minorities than your moderate, business as usual, approach, that's a demonstrable fact
.

in fact, you even take it one step further and actively lash out at these people just for making these issues their main, overarching concern.
"these people just for making these issues their main, overarching concern... while condemning you as a sexists, rapist, racist, misogynist, etc., when you don't agree with them automatically every time always!!*"

You align closer to Trump than I do, you still accept bribes from corporations, I don't. Trump does though.

i can't remember the last time i took a bribe from a corporation.

at some point, you are going to have to come back to reality or just accept your fate as an idiot.
When I refer to 'you', I'm referring to who you support/represent ~ the establishment

No not at all, I'm sure none of that money compromised any of his positions. I mean, why would it, right?
i gave you a perfect opportunity to back up your inane assertions with facts and evidence, but you chose to come back with substance-free innuendo like a good little boy.

at some point i have no choice but to classify you every bit as reality-free as the trumptards.
