Wet to dry outdoor bud ratio improvements

This picture is a wet bud that weighed 75g and the same bud weighs 7g dry. I have used so many drying techniques but i notice trimming after drying adds alot of weight. What are some of you growers doing/using to improve that ratios of dry weight. This year i trimmed the fan leaves with trim pro and left the stocks attached until dry.

there is a way to add weight to dry harvest??

good post about the wet vs dry weight always guessed it lost a ton in drying but not that much..

I would believe the reason trimming after drying adds SOME weight is due to the water oils etc in the fan leaves stems etc drying slowly and the water oils etc will get drawn into the buds since the buds still want to grow a bit after being cut it uses the remain power from the less important parts of the plant..

just a guess tho

So you're saying that before drying, the one larger branch in the pic I am assuming, weighed 75g (over 2 1/2oz.), but after drying only weighed 7g (1/4oz.)?
I never heard of that.
Even if you had really fluffy airy buds, I can't imagine it losing that much weight.

I'd guess this is about correct (depending on strain too) but there is major water loss in the drying process.. take a green bud and bud in in a ziploc bag add a bit of air and sit in the sun for a but the condenstion forms and there is alot.. have done this to buds I thought were dry and seen moisture build up

Yea.. I have never experienced a 90% loss :S. I personally go by a 25-30% of the wet weight. Also, don't weigh big buds with big stems..

Always a let down.

I understand what you're saying, there is always SOME moisture left, otherwise as soon as you hit it with flame, all you would have is ash, but I never thought there was a 90% loss in drying.

nah agreed... 90% is a lot... but then when making hash.. we generally are lucky to get 10% return on input... we just need to make bigger trichomes like the size of grapefruit!

Yep gioua u r correct it does depend alot on strains, and leaves left on increases weight but u gotta trim dry. That strain in the pic is the densest strain i grow and many things were done during flowering to increase mass like molasses.etc. It is a very solid chunky strain. I lose more then 90% on some strians depending on trimming techniques. Grape Krush loses alot if you trim it wet with a trim pro you kinda have to but if you screen it and dry fast omg.

I know many use products like gravity in flower. Seen many dry-rehydrate close to sale to stay away from mold. Some rehydrate just opening a lb in a wet basement you can gain a oz overnit with some strains, or use fresh bud.

The speed at which i dry also seems to effect the total numbers i am noticing.

I normally paid no attention to dry methods/weights until I seen the same plants harvested 2 different ways. Many guys i know just harvest outdoors under a tarp which yields alot different then wood stove/fan/screens is faster and you can regulate. I would rather grow more plants and harvest wet with a trim pro then trim by hand dry lol Trimming outside on a nice sunny day is great but rain/cold sucks. I lose alot of weight but get no mold and then add moisture many months later. I hope some others have some great tips or products to improve the ratio.

I remember dealers spraying down buds with pop many years ago "greasy" and not what i am lookn to tap into but products like gravity, molasses, seaweed tech, strains that keep weight is what I like to learn :-P

A 75% loss from wet to dry weight is just about the common average. The dry weight of actual bud will not change according to what surface you dry and cure your buds on.... it could effect how long it takes to dry... whether or not a lot of trichs get knocked off...but the mass of the flower will not change.. it cannot metaphysically change the actual dry weight of the bud. What you are talking of sounds more like improper curing rather than properly cured bud.

It is a hard thing to measure moisture ratios. It is impossible to dry a bud 2 ways. The way i was measuring was same clones, wet weight buds drying in 2 different manners. Moisture content/oils held in the stocks is different in the 2 ways. The texture of the flowers is harder as well. I found a difference when sweating with long stacks still attached. Just my observations.
