Wet muck at bottom of pot!

Hello,

This is the first year using this size pot. It's about 30% bigger than the 20 inch pots I normally use. I read some where that a large pot isn't always better. Despite the many extra holes I drilled the bottom third of soil is wet muck while the top 2/3 of soil is dry enough to cause wilting. This happens to be an eggplant but same goes for dope plants.

get rid of the bottom cap pieces and put it in a saucer if you need to catch the runoff.. that appears to be one of the pots that has a resevour at the bottom for bottom feeding.. they usually have a grate that goes on the bottom of the pot from the inside that holds the soil above that resevour.. I would bet that's where the much is from.. it can also lead to over watering/soil staying too wet for too long

The pot size is not the issue.
The problem is the medium.

Hello my brother, good eye. This is the only plant that has the saucer under it because it's on the deck and I didn't want to get it stained. For everything else it's actually elevated on a grate.

Totally reasonable, are the others mucking up as well?
