JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A Jacksonville couple was arrested after police said they grew mushrooms in their son's closet.
Police told Channel 4 that the couple was growing illegal drugs in their 7 year-old's bedroom. According to the police report, when authorities discovered the hallucinogens, the boy told his mother, "Well mom, the police found them."
Investigators were led to the home off East Stanford Road after they got an anonymous tip. Police found several budding magic mushrooms. According to the police, the boy said his dad goes into his room to check the temperature of the mushrooms and that his mom knows about them, but only watches the dad check on them.

A spokesperson from the Department of Children and Families said they are actively investigating the case. The department plans on interviewing the child to make sure he didn't accidentally get his hands on them.

The Florida Supreme Court in 1978 ruled that possession of wild psilocybin mushrooms is not illegal; however, whether knowingly gathering wild psilocybin mushrooms for later use is illegal or was not addressed in the decision. In all states, except New Mexico, growing psilocybin-containing mushrooms from spores is considered manufacture of a controlled substance. In New Mexico, on June 15, 2005, the New Mexico appeals court ruled that growing psilocybin mushrooms for personal use is not manufacture of a controlled substance.

maybe they should say they found them :hump:

Reminds me of this one time my friend's little boy, who was in the 4nd grade back then, got into his dad's Shroom stash, and brought several of them to school for his classes show and tell. After that they had to deal with social services, threatening to take their kid away from them, and them making constant random inspections of their house, for about 7 months after that. If you have kids you really should have enough sense to keep your drugs hidden where they can't get to them, so I didn't really feel sorry for him in that situation.
