Two of my plants are next to a 10 foot tall flowering poison sumac bush/tree. I was unaware that poison sumac even grew in my state let alone did i know what it looked like. Well after critters dug up 4 of my 6 plants, i put cages around them. I tried spray painting them but it didnt work so i figured, hey, I'll weave the branches of this bush into my cage... so i preceded to weave about 10 flowering poison sumac branches into the cage... this was around 3 weeks ago i think and im just getting over the rashes/bumps but my body still itches in random places most of the time without showing rashes.. i even had that shit on my nuts

well the plants are not flowering yet (well as of 4 days ago) just very small preflowers... i've got big cages so the sumac has not touched any of the plants. DO you think that the pollen from it being nearby could be harmful? I could always chop it down but then my plants would like be in the open.

When burned, inhalation of the smoke may cause the rash to appear on the lining of the lungs, causing extreme pain and possibly fatal respiratory difficulty.................

According to some botanists, poison sumac is the most toxic plant species in the United States (Frankel, 1991).
If it hasn't flowered yet I would get rid of that shit ASAP via a machete and a pair of workers gloves. But keep an eye out on it because apparently that stuff grows really quick so it could come back.
