A good method is to buy a moisture meter! It will save you a lot of heart ache! Our girls do not like wet feet! They prefer to reach out and find food!

only water morning and night when possible....

BUSH OR HYDRO ???

for a baby if you water it during the day in full heat... the pot wil heat up and kill the baby.... you will come out to find a limp plant thats keeling over...
you could water it during the day if its in a good shaded spot tho..

but yeah you wanna keep the soil damp not wet as best you can... the babies like this and the soil shouldnt heat up and fry them as easily....

so yeah for a seedling i just try to keep the soil a nice damp for them...
then when theyre bigger a water at night or in the morning when its cool :).. "by night i mean arvo just before its getting dark, ya know when the days started cooling down.."

for bigger plants if the soil looks dry i try make it too night time, or if the whole top looks dry make a 1 inch hole and see if the inside soil is dry if it is give it some water..
what i do is give it a little water to get it through till it starts getting dark then give it the propper watering :)

hope this helps..
really its up to you just keep the soil a suitable state for the plant ya should be able to tell... the seedling aint gonna like dry dirt at thesame time it may not like too much water.... specially house water if ya got a sensitive plant.... it pays to let house watert sit in the sun for a while.. (but dont forget to let cool before use on plants ya dont wanna fry the root system... by the sme token ya dont want the water to be too cold..)

anyways like i said hope this helps...
