Watering tecnique

So my mate has a 1sq mtr tent on and the water system he is doing is just 4 pots coco+ pebbles sat in the tray and water just comes into the tray, and sits there until the plants have drank it then it keeps refilling as the water goes down, is that not bad for the plants to just be sat in water all the time, and won't it cause alot of problems with humidity in flower I have never heard it done this way, does anyone have any useful link for this style of watering thanks guys

The thing I don't understand is how there is all that loose water in the bottom, or how it's not going to over water it seems bit similar to auto pots but instead of having individual trays per pot there is one big metre sqr tray at the bottom that fills that's because we couldn't find big enough auto trays for the pots so he has improvised , I'm not sure it will work ?? Any theory's or anyone done this before that can give some advise bout growing like this

depending on how much water is replenished and how often and how long it sits in the bottom, without oxygen, problems like root rot could appear. add an air stone for a better experience....thats what I'd tell him

Well there is about 1and a half inch of water sat in the tray, and it will constantly fill when drank because of the float once the float lowers it fills back with water, but I think that there is too much water in there there has to be at least 10 -15 litre of water in there for 4 plants what job would an air stone do, do you mean for the water tank or for the tray, do you think it will cause some problems when in flower , because he is doing this on a scrog as well so I'm just thinking it would be to humid in there in flower with all that water

Do you not think humidity in flower would be to high? And when you say about roots been waterlogged do you mean all tangled up in the water? If it got to that point could we not just cut the overgrowth root away ?

As long as the entire root system is not waterlogged,, and being in coco pots and pebbles, that should work in my opinion.

As long as it's not over 65%, which is shouldn't be at this time of year, it will be fine.
Let the bottom roots run into the water, as long as the majority of the root system is exposed to air , the plants should be ok.
If you develop root rot, which I doubt, then cut away the diseased roots.
Next time I would go for an ebb and flow system, to assure optimal oxygen to the root system, but just putting some water in the container that dry's up with plant consumption say in 2 or 3 day's, is essentially the same thing.
It sounds to me, all should be ok.

Check out Autopots. Same concept. Lots of bottom fed options that work just fine when done right.

His using coco is plus because can flush any buildup out if the need arises.

I used Octopots with the same ideals. dirt on top in bags, a little spot of the bottom rests in water/res, no bubbles, worked like a charm, raised rh significantly for the wet bags on top

Thanks mate so do you think it would help to put a few holes in the side of pot at bottom to allow air to flow through the pots easier because the way it is now all holes in the pots are under water should I just raise pots slightly, or shall I just put some holes in pots above water level

Holes around the pots wouldn't hurt, but unless is easy to do, I wouldn't sweat it. Not really needed.
Your in coir and pebbles right, which should provide enough air to your root system so they don't get saturated and drown.
