Water volume in top feed vs bottom feed F&D

Hello Guys,

I have been growing SCROG for 5 crops till now employing just soil (2 weeks veg / 8 weeks flowering) after an arduous research I am determined to migrate to a hydroponic system. I'm thinking of a hybrid between NFT and F&D but the F&D (bottom feed) requires too much water for 2 inches height (32 gal approx.) and I wonder if using a top feed could I reduce this volume ??? and if so how much would this be? 50%?? maybe using a DTW letting pass 10% ? anyways I would prefer to use a recirculating system

When you build an F&D bottom feed table, what are the height of your net pots? I was thinking of 2" filled with hydroton and then put a coconut pad on the bottom of the F&D table. I have read that the hydroton needs to be completely submerged to avoid salt accumulation and to promote an abundant root system.
  • If I use rockwoll Cube instead of hydroton could I reduce my flood height to just 1 "by taking advantage of the glass capillarity ???
  • Do you think if I used a 1" height net pot with hydroton wouldnt be enough substrate to hold the first roots generated??
  • For such a short height would an Aeroponic system with sprayers work?
In case there is a thread in RIU about this that I have been overlooked, please point it out with a link

Regarding nutrients I have not made my mind up yet but I am choosing between Canna and G&H but with a reservoir of 32 gal the cost of them are huge and not viable

My set up is made up of

2 tables 9 ft x 4 ft (area)
8 CMH 350 W

Attached is a draft of the original idea

Thks for the help in advance!
