I always water to a little runoff when im using pots. I run doctor earth and other amendments. They just sit in it until they slurp it up. Watering to runoff ensures all the soil is completely saturated eliminating any dry spots. You get dry spots, then water to run off, you will experience burn. If your medium drys out on the botto., the roots start to die back as well.
Chernobyl testers I just watered sitting in runoff. They love it.

I only use pots when doing pheno hunts or starting outdoor clones. Everything I run after finding a keeper goes into a sip. Takes all the guesswork out of everything.
