Vivosun autopots

Greetings to all growers of the world!

Newbie to RollitUp forum... not sure about the organization but I wanted to post so FIRST Post!

My homegrown interest was revived when I found GrowPots in Aldis. Got 3 10 gal (?), did a bit of research and ordered seeds from SupremeSeed.com . Very good info.

I have gardened, have grown girls in the 70's , the 80's, the 90's.... Some Botanical background in college and early jobs .... Then into office/suit/tie, & other things....

The info at SupremeSeed is first rate, organized & published (!)... any newbie should go ... The buying experience was so so... I purchased 25 seeds in 4 varieties, and tried germinating them in groups of 3. I used paper towel & direct to soil methods... used salad boxes as mini greenhouses & solo cups & dark closet.

After a couple of rounds of germination, my score was 9 viable plants of 25. Supreme Seed has a "germination guarantee".... Nope. Questioned my methods, quibbled about "paid" vs "free/bonus" seed .... I noticed some immature seeds and some were super small. Florida company.... not recommended.

OTOH, my grow is progressing... I am using my balcony, good sun, wind shielded, but mine is a mid-city location. The Aldi's bags are 14x14 x 17" deep... are for vegetables & potatoes.... Used 30 lbs + of potting soil mixed with Vermiculite 60/40... 12" deep. Set up bags with bottom layer of plastic bottles for drainage, 2.5" deep.
Planted 2 plants, same variety, per bag. (one strain had 100% failure - Gelato)

Germination in late May, a few weeks of windowsill for seedlings.... then outside at 4 nodes / 8 inches.... Used double Solo Cups, inner one with bottom cut out, soil reservoir in second, so transplant was a breeze . Left girls in inner cup with species and date notes.

I found the fabric pots were great. Trick was watering… Every few days…. When the temps got to 90s F. + much more frequent … The wet/dry cycle is good for vegetation, but not so good for weekends away … super droopy girls…. Did research, had some thoughts … First idea, Wicking …. Back to discount stores…. Found rectangular plastic bins, cheap but 9x11. X 13” deep…. Oops – round peg pot in square hole (kinda) …. No problem… Used a brick in bottom for a reservoir, rested fabric bags on top, did my best to keep the air circulation of the pots going, started out with top watering…..

Researched idea of wicks …. Bottom watering (SIP) IS a soil wicking method as installed … BUT I had ¼ rope on hand, so I installed 1 foot lengths traveling from pot side down to bin reservoir … Belt and suspenders …. WTFKs if it will work … will update.

Having fun…. Did LST on first container to bud … Tried a bit of SOG and manifold on other two … Right now I struggle with cloning (cuttings) .. no roots just fungus …. Feed once a month.

Despite length of this post, I feel I am solidly in KISS territory… minimal money, labor as I want, go to beach …. No worries. I am planning for indoor winter grow …. No lights, same watering….

Peace.

Poster here as I just got 5 VivoSun tall 3 gal bags. Using them as above for last 3 seedlings.... going outside with the rest. Easy transplant. Alas, when wet the 3 large bags from Aldis are unmanageable; need a loader... LoL
Live & learn...

For the record, I have Purple Haze and Blue Dream doing very nicely; 3.5 feet, 2 are in flower. Mix of photo, autoflower and feminized (boring). Single Jack Ferer . As mentioned, I am doing KISS, nutes about every 3 weeks, 10-10-10. If my watering system pans out, it will be a nice September.

Thinking about "Jealousy " strain for indoors. Indica, so better for me. EU breed.... anyone familiar?

Peace
