Very Good Question/Need Smart Answer

Hi, this is the deal. I have a 7'x6'x7.5 insulated GROWROOM inside a 14'x12'x8' BEDROOM. I am setting up my room and have read the faq section on venting. I want my BEDROOM to be totally smell free. So you think that i could just run an exhaust w/ a carbon filter from my GROWROOM to my attic 24/7 right? Wrong. I want at least 30-45 min of constant bottled CO2 running to make my plants faster and better. So I read that it is better to have active exhaust/passive intake. Well if my exhaust is only on for 15min an hour I know the GROWROOM would start to smell up in the other 45 min of no exhaust but would the smell leak out the passive intake holes out into my BEDROOM? or does air-pressure somehow make an (airwall) across the holes so that air doesn't come back out the passive holes. If this is not true is there anything I can do to treat the problem. Thanks.

I would think that the smell will get out if you aren't running the exhaust.... especially if the growroom isn't built with drywall and shit..... if it's a tent, or anything else like that, your gunna get smell unless that fan is running 24/7

you need to seal the cabinet and keep the exhaust fan on 24/7 with a filter on it. Keep the intake passive.. it will suck air in from your intake only and spew it only out your exhaust. No air will escape that hasn't been filtered.

But then how do I run my CO2? Do I have to just fill it up quick for about 15min then exhaust for 45min? Or can I get another fan and filter inside the room and another fan as intake. So it would go like this >active intake, and carbonfilter active exhaust on for 15min together to exchange old air and bring in new. Then shut off both intake and exhaust fans for 45min. Yet still have another carbonfilter w/ fan 24/7 inside the room continuously cleaning the smell of the room while just sucking up the CO2 and spitting it back out in the same room. Then after 45min of that exchange the air again then repeat. That sounds the best, but most $$$. What do you all think?

No dont exhaust 24/7 w/ co2. I exhaust every three hours and cant smell a thing. I feel not exhausting at all is more stealth as far as noise and smell is concerned. Just make sure it is completely sealed. Yes passive inkaes will leak with no exhaust running. They will leak real bad because CO2 is heavier than air and your intakes are probably at the bottom of you cabinet/room. I solved this by adding a backdraft dampner. It only alows air to flow one way...When the exhaust is off it springs shut and is rubber sealed. It also works great during night hours because it keeps light out. They run like 25 bones. You can get a nice electric one for like 70.

Get something like the sentenial controller that will only exhaust your cab when temp/humidity reaches a certain threshold. If usually force on my exhaust fan when i open the doors so the smell is all drawn out the carbon filter. If you still have smells chances are your area is not 100% sealed. In that case an ozone generater like air-zone xt-400 running 2 seconds a minute will kill all smells and be at safe levels for humans/plants in a 10x10x9 room. I think the ozone generator are great for anyone who is concerened with stealth. I usually dont run it duing the grows, but if i know i have someone coming over like a landlord or inlaws i put it on high for like 30 min and leave the room. I come back and turn it off. It is like a shock treatment. Also very useful during and after harvest. It eliminates all smells. Just use it responsibly. They are also useful if you ever get mold or move into a new home or whatever just to deep clean the air and surface in the room. Cant beat them for cooking. I actually just grow for personal use and have too muc so i turn half of it into oil for storage and keep in in a freezer. Can beat ozone while cooking the green...Oil in the air will ruin carbon filters quick... Ozone(o3) is actually really unstable. Once you no longer produce it converts to 02 within 30 min at most.

some more food for thought

I do dwc. My air pump is ouside my grow chamber and is 320gph. Whic means i am actuall forcing enough air into the cabinet to clear my air every hour. This is why i had to make sure the whole thing was super air tight. The extra air must forced slowly out my carbon filter "passivly" because i can smell a thing.

Edit: I cant speak to smell exiting through the material of a tent as i have never used one. I know it does not exit my steel cabinet and have friends that use sealed closets(wood/drywall) in a manner that i have spoke and you cannot smell anything. If i had your space i would get a dehumidifier and AC and never run the exhaust/carbon filter unless i opened the door.

google "CGE" closed grow enviroments if you need more info.....
