Hey guys sorry I don't know where to put this. I am making my own " smart pots" and was researching the root system. It seems that it's grows deep and eventually spreads out. Since I am making my own pots I was wondering what your thoughts would be on making deeper taller pots that where not as wide ? Any have anything.. Downsides potential good sides

I would recommend taking advantage of the research already done by the manufacturer and make yours roughly the same dimensions.

I learn't the theory that canna prefers deep pots, but in practice its the reverse I put my babe in a shallow pot, she thrives, as canna don't like wet feet, so now after 45 years I go for an equal both...

put up a tutorial in your journal of your DIY pots ...?

I like both, an equally deep and wide pot is best, you get the best of both worlds, lol. But I like slightly wider than deep, but also have done well with a 4-5 gallon trash can which is slightly deeper than wide. I hope that helps, lol, dont give it too much thought, though. Make a choice, observe your results, go from there. I like to start around 1/2 gallon pot size, they seem to grow more vigourously earlier in veg than if they were started in something like solo cups.

I will post a DIY in my journal at some point tonight.they where started in a 4" pot.. Pulled them at about three weeks. Fairly root bound. They are a bit messed up at the moment.. I made the mistake of giving a small amount of nutes as seedlings in coco and they suffered from bite burn.. Flushed did much better haven't given them any since day one.. But they are starting to droop and yellow. Not sure if now they need the nutes.. Hope so ! Gave them a quarter strength coco a and b and root excelerater. So I can't say if these pots are making a difference.. As at the moment they don't look the healthiest
