Vermiculite -noobish question

So I was under the impression that Vermiculite is like Perlite and got some for the potting mix I'm making. My book says it sorta retains water.

Potting mix:
3 gal peat moss
1 gal humus
1 gal leaf compost
1 gal mushroom compost
1 cup fine dolomite lime
~1cuft
+ 1 gal Perlite
+ 1 gal Vermiculite ?

Should I add it ?

So much for commenting while buzzed, thought it said perlite... I never add vermiculite, but I do use it to grow shrooms..lol So 86 my vote above.. Time to pull away I'm not reading right...

me too I add perlite but those rocks will cut your roots that are trying to grow.

The only time I might add vermiculite, is to my mix for my seedlings.
