Venting into an attic...

Will the heat not just build up inside the attic and make the roof of my property glow and be visible to FLIR?

I have felt how much heat 1 x 600w puts off as i currently vent outside my bedroom door and into my hallway and adjoining rooms

Im just wondering if the attic is a better way to go

Heat is bad

Yes it will build up and yes it will stick out like a sore thumb!...

What i did is connect some ducting through my attic and drilled holes in the waist pipe from my house. All attic should have a waist pipe. Done get confused with the chimney pipe tho. I cut a 4" round hole and connected it up. it works a treat. No heat and less smell outside the house.... Also you may want to put some ONA blocks in the ducting to help with the smell. this works really well for me. It smells like fresh linen outside my house....

Hope this helps...

thanks dan... i hear ya about the smell thing

i have a carbon filter and i can still smell the herb when i walk into the property

my attic is part of a block of flats and sometimes (although very rarely) there are people up there for maintenance.

I cant even go up there (dont have access) - but i do have a hole in the bathroom ceiling where an old extractor vent is placed so that is what i was thinking of using to vent into

This is bothering me lol

White, it depends on the type of attic you have, dose it have vents at either end of the space, if so it will probably be OK
If there is a vent already you can use that.
I would not mess with the drain vents, there is a reason the make it clear the roof before ending, I would not want any of that gas flowing back into my room. That's just me.
Good luck and let us know what happens...Good luck JR

Just stuck an old ona block in the exhaust... worked a treat

Now about that heat.... how the hell do people with 4 x 600w lights in a bedroom get away without detection?

The heat has got to go somewhere

JR the problem is - i cant get into the attic, so i have no idea... i would love to go up there one day and take a peek but i dont have access

I really wanted a tent with 4 lights but now im thiinking for safety reasons maybe having just the one 600w HPS might be safer

My boy runs 4 1000 watt lights and only cut a hole in the ceiling and ran it through the ceiling into the attic.
He has been growing there for almost 2 years, do you think anyone knocked on his door and asked why his attic is so warm? No
If you have police looking at your house with thermal imaging, the gig is probably up anyway.

And I was not saying go into the attic I was saying run you vent into the old hole for the vent you mentioned, Good luck and let us know what you come up with..JR

I don't think you should worry about the heat from just one 600 watt light. It's strange but true that your six hundred watt HID light system will produce no more heat than a six hundred watt induction heater, refrigerator, radio, or any other electrical device that consumes six hundred watts. Every appliance bears a label that says how many watts it consumes. Count up the watts that you're using in a house at any given time, (and remember that all those appliances produce the same heat per consumed watt that your light does), and I think you'll see that six hundred more or less watts of heat won't matter much. Regarding venting that heat into the attic space, that's where all the heat your house produces tends to go anyway so it shouldn't have much impact.
