Ventilation... does it add up?

Hi Guys!

We have a 5 x 3 x 7 foot closet that needs ventilation. We've calculated how much air we'll need to move... but we already bought a fan that's too small - it only has 80CFM.

So, if we buy another 80CFM fan does that mean that we are now moving 160 cubic feet of air per minute? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

nope sorry. I'm guessing that would be one in and one out? if you want to remove heat a smaller fan could work it just needs to run longer. if your just moving air in the room the smaller fan will work. What type of fan did you get?

Oh that link isn't working. But to answer the other question both fans will be sucking heat out of the room. We'll probably have an additional fan bringing cool air in. It's a 4'' in-line fan from home depot, which I already wired up to plug in so I can't return it. I thought if we got another 4'' that was sucking air out we would be sucking at double time? No?

you are venting about 105 cubic feet of space so the fan will turn your air over in less than 2 minutes.
if both your fans are in the same ventpipe, then no you wont double the draw but if each fan is independently vented, then yes you will double your CFM
