Howdy y'all

Ok, im planning to scrog 2 - 4 plants in a closet which will be something like 2 x 3 x 5ft...

Originally i was gonna go with cfls cos i thought it was too small for a 250 hps, then realised with a bit of air shiftage that would be ok...the 250w ballast im gonna use can take a MH so i thought a ha, i can use a MH for veg - then i saw the actually running wattage is more like 300W, and puts out about 10,000L less than the 250W hps, so i thought thats a bit shite, now im back where i started, looking at cfls for veg!

Will defo use the HPS for flowering but unsure about veg...bottom line is i DO wanna run this as cheaply as possible, so im looking really at watts v lumens and the relative health of plants...

My thoughts so far:

250W MH: Shitty lumen output for a lot of gas, almost ditched that idea

5 x 45W CFLs: 75w less than the HID but only 12,000L / 6 sq ft = 2,000l per sq/ft, not ideal...BUT being close to a scrog and not having much depth to penetrate might counteract the poor lumen output

250W HPS: Good lumen/watt ratio...potential for stretching but the horizontal training and the vertical stretching might make for a nice scrog

Hmmm....i think i just answered my own question there but im still wondering if the 5 x 45W cfl would be enough for vegging...it would defo saved a few quid, i think they look really cool and ive noticed veg growth under cfls looks really healthy and bushy...

over to you guys....

cheers!

Have you checked into t5's? Much higher lumen output than CFL's and they run significantly cooler than HID lights.

Cheers m8, yeah the T5 look awesome but man i dunno whats inside them bad boyz that makes them sooo expensive! The cheapest 4 x 24W fitting with tubes ive found is about 200 euros including p&p, thats about $300...yikes!

Good lumen to watt ratio but until they can shave off a few bucks i cant see them becoming massively popular amonst growers...

Check out Sun System New Wave T5's... They have an 8 bulb 24W/bulb setup that has a MSRP of 200 USD.

Also Check out HydroFarm... They have a number of 4 and 8 24W bulb setups that run between 115 and 215 USD.

Either of those two might have retailers close to where you are.
