Veg time

Past and present

My last few grows have been in coco/perlite (3:1). Ill usually end up flowering 5 plants per 1000w that vegged for around a month. I got around 1lb per light. I grew the plants in 5 gal plastic pots and hand watered them up to 3 times a day always with lots of GH nutrients and always to extra runoff. Some vigorous plants have yielded 6 ounces from the one month veg.

This time around Ive got them in Roots 707 soil but I also cut it with a small amount of perlite. (10:1). 16 plants per 1000W growing in 2 gal plastic pots. I planted all the clones a week ago and growth is starting to take off.

Question: How long should I let them veg?

I'm topping them all tonight. Recovery should be overnight and perhaps the next day.
I don't want the plants to get too big because I worry about them becoming rootbound or drying out too quickly once they get to late flowering. With coco this wasn't an issue because I would plant them in bigger pots and had the option of watering them however often I wanted.

I plan on finishing these plants in their 2gal containers.

After I top the plants should I
immediately go into flowering?

All opinions welcome.

I am leaning towards switching to flowering around a week after topping.

For me, for rooted clones in real 2 gallon pots, not nursery trade pots, then its 21 - 24 days of vegging max, and if they are nursery trade pots, which 2 gallon pots are really closer to 1.5 gallon pots, then its 14 - 18 days of vegging max. And as a side note, I have never used Roots 707 soil, so my veg times for that size pot, (ie; 2 gallons) may not be the same. Anyhow... my veg times are based on myself using PM HP with 30% perlite mixed in. And as another side note.. I base my veg times for the size pots that I am using, and those veg times allow my clones / plants to flower very nicely, as the root zones in those pots maintain a very good aeration rate all the way to harvest, and that's simply because I limit those clones / plants to a strict veg schedule based on the size of the pots that I am using!
